Eureka, I found it!  I know many of us have been looking for a syrup substitute to use on pancakes, french toast, etc.  Seems too good to be true, but I finally found it, and not only that but it actually tastes really good!

The brand is Lundberg (they also make the rice and rice cakes) and it's called Organic Sweet Dreams Brown Rice Syrup.  Only ingredients are organic brown rice & pure filtered water. Available at Whole Foods, Amazon & elsewhere online.

http://www.lundberg.com/products/syrup/syrup_og.aspx

It tastes a lot like syrup to me, only a faint aftertaste of brown rice if I really focus on it.  Even my husband who dislikes all my substitute foods tried this and said he was surprised it was good!  And b/c ingredients are brown rice and water, even List 1'ers should be ok w/ it.

So happy to pass this discovery on to you all!  What delight in the "little things," huh?

Brown Rice Syrup

I am pretty sure this would be fine for people in recovery but I don't think its okay for people still in treatment.  I bake with it a lot and use it for my son but I think it is like agave and is not okay while you are still working on getting rid of your IC.  I bet that she would say though if you have to cheat its not a terrible cheat but I would definitely ask her before you continue.

sugar carb content

The sugar carb content is high in this. The serving is equal to a whole meal. Looking at lables past the ingredient list is very important. I would think this is an individual basis. Also i think that it depends on what you pair this with. I would addd it to a sauce at one teaspoon. Think about this if you are going to make pancakes that is a carb in it self. then your going to add this carb to it. I would hope that egg omlet with veggies are served with it to get a balanced diet.  Do you see where I am going with this? Maybe you want to add it to your yogurt to sweeten it up. IF your in list three I can see using it to make a almond sauce. We still have to follow the rules though and make sure your ratios are correct. THis serving size seems to be way too high for someone in list one or list 2 and still even some for list 3 so I wouldn't use the serving size if you inteted to eat this. I am curious to see what Matia would say but I have a feeling Iam right in thinking she will say the same thing or along the lines of the same thing I just did. It is a good find though.

I am excited to hear Matia's

I am excited to hear Matia's opinion on this syrup.  Please post it after talking with her.  This topic might be a good blog post.  I would love hear more examples of how you guys balance carbs, proteins, and vegetables.  I seem to be craving carbs way to much.

:-(

Sorry guys -- I thought since ingredients said just brown rice and water it would be ok in small doses and assuming it's eaten w/ the prescribed ratios and I didn't think to clear it w/ her.  Thanks for bringing up the potential issues; and even tho I reacted fine it's possible like Nicole & others said w/ the sugar content it's any issue...

So does anyone have an appt soon who could ask her?

I asked Matia

I e-mailed Matia to ask about the brown rice syrup because I know when I was in treatment and I would neglect to ask I always paid the price over time and it would throw me back.  I had this happen with sunscreen at one point and it took awhile for me to react but then we traced it and it really set me back.  Its terrible.

While the brown rice syrup is a great treat it can only be used for patients on list four.   She said that there should be NOTHING sweet at all until list four and even then in moderation!

It is a great find to hold on to until later!!

I know how hard list one is and how we are constantly looking for something as a treat.   But if you stick to it..you will get to list four sooner!

Thanks Sydney and Kriste for asking

I'm so sorry to have given premature info or false hope to anyone. It's a lesson for the future to me to clear anything like this thru Matia first.

Definitely something to look forward to though....
