Hi my name is Amy. I have my first appt with Dr B at the end of June. I'm excited & scared. A few questions Any tips on traveling & being comfortable? I am flying from NY to LA and worried about the long flight. Also are there safe places to eat when staying there? Any suggestions? When you see Dr B does anyone have some advice to make the most of the visit... Not forget all your info. 1 hour 30 min doesn't seem long enough:) Did you start the protocol immediately & what was your body's reaction the first couple of weeks? Sorry so many ?'s hopeFully in the near future I will be writing about my success story.

There is a Ralph's grocery store down the street from her office with some healthy options & salads. I also enjoy going to In and Out when in LA-you can get their protein burger (wrapped in lettuce) with no bun. You may want to cook up some hard boiled eggs and grilled chicken to bring on your flight with Lundberg brown rice cakes to eat as snacks in a pinch. She will start you on herbs right away I believe. If you stay at the Holiday Inn, they have very little breakfast options nearby, but they do have a hotel breakfast area and the nice ladies will heat up something for you in their microwave. You could bring some sugar free spelt bread and make toast at least in their toaster which is what I did.
Where in NY are you? I live on long island. Good luck! You will love Dr. B!

Thanks for responding:) I'm actually from Buffalo but my brother & sister live in Manhattan so I am there often. My husband & I are staying at the Palomar Hotel in Westwood. They have a restaurant so I am hoping they can make stuff for me:)  I have been on the diet for about a month & was doing well bit 5 days ago the pain started pretty severely again for no reason. I'm hoping I am feeling okay to travel. It will be a miserable trip if I am in pain:)

I can't believe that I'm already six months with Dr. Brizman.  I flew in from Toronto and brought with me a bunch of frozen zucchini muffins (in the recipe section of this website) as snacks on the plane.  Also consider bringing a bunch of your own cut up veggies.
In terms of your first appointment, I wrote out my entire medical history and symptomology in a detailed document. This proved to be really handy because I was so nervous and excited, I would definitely have forgotten details if they weren't written down.  I also brought copies of all the tests and bloodwork I'd had in regards to my IC diagnosis. She looked them over and I believe they helped her somewhat in making the decision on how she would treat me.  Finally, I also brought a list of questions about the diet about my prognosis, etc.  I found the more organized I was, the more I was able to cram into that 1.5-hour appointment.
In terms of reactions to the protocol. I think everyone is different.  I had already started Dr. B's diet and was on probiotics for several months before my first appointment. Because of that, I really didn't feel any different for several months after starting her treatment. Also, because I considered myself a fairly mild case, I didn't follow the diet as strictly as I could. This really hindered my progress at the beginning.  If I could offer you one piece of advice it would be to stick to the letter of the diet, don't cheat even a little and not even once.  This really does affect your recovery, especially at the early stages when your body is very weak.
For me, once I got very serious about the diet, and we stepped up the protocol somewhat, I started feeling very encouraging die-off symptoms (headaches, some nausea, localized stomach rash, fatigue, etc.) at about the three or four-month mark. My pain levels also started to slowly drop off.  It's definitely not a linear process, and it always seems like you take one step forward and two steps back, but I'm definitely on the mend--I've actually been totally pain-free now for over a month.
In any case, everyone's experiences are different, but I hope this is helpful in terms of one person's experience with the protocol.  Best of luck on your first appointment.
Lauren

Thank you for all of the info:) I will definitely get all of my history together & all of the drugs I am taking. Less to think about at the appointment.
