Okay,  I wrote a whole letter and it somehow got deleted. My question was whether anyone found yoga helpful. I also wondered whether anyone found swimming in a salt water pool was a good exercise.

Are their any other exercises that anyone found helpful?  I would imagine exercise could greatly reduce anxiety.
Exercise is the one thing I miss greatly since my surgery and I still have to wait another 3 weeks before I can begin any exercise other then walking. It's been 13 weeks already!!!!  Can't wait until I get the go ahead.

I just asked Dr. B this question. She told me if I feel like doing it...then do it...if I don't then don't. Basically listen to your body...if it makes you feel good...the by all means :) But if it aggravates symptoms...don't.

I asked, too and got the same answer. I did yoga for a while, then switched to running. When I figured that running makes me loose too much weight and there is no way to stop loosing it, I switched to walking. Dr B said, 'do what feels good to your body.' But... I am a little further in my treatment. In the beginning, when I was tired all the time, Dr B was conserned about yoga.  I actually, stopped doing a particular style of yoga after a while when I realised it increased pain.
It might be worth asking what YOU in relationship where you are in treatment when you talk with her next time.

Thanks for your replies. I will exercise with caution.

Still wondering if anyone has had success with swimming in salt water pools.....

Exercise is an interesting topic. I am anxious to hear what others have to say about this.
Bonnie has been researching saline pools and results are unclear (she may have had a reaction). I am not sure she was in a 100% saline pool, or if there really is such a thing. Seems like there is some level of chemical treatment. I would not experiment with this personally until I was later in treatment and could ask Dr. B. Bonnie has VERY few bladder symptoms now, so it is probably easier for her to tell when she might be reacting to something.
My random thoughts on exercise:
It seems like everyone reacts differently.
Dr. B said NO squats or lunges as they are too hard on the bladder.
My knees have been achy before and since starting treatment. I am tempted to do the "big muscle" leg exercises, because when the big muscles are worked, more calories are burned. But I don't want to inflame my knees.
Getting the heart-rate up feels good. But it also produces lactic acid, as does strength training, and maybe Pilates too. A lot of this puts tension on the bladder. WHen you have a chronic illness, it seems it is hard for the body to balance its own PH. Adding lactic acid may be too hard on the bladder early in treatment.

Some people find that exercise increases their pain but they do it anyway.

It doesn't seem to bother some people at all.

Part of the reason I got sick, was my OCD tendancies. As an adult I had an eating disorder and somewhat of an exercising disorder. I am trying to be gentle with myself about this right now, including trying not to obsess about exercise, so as not to feed my illness.
I am trying to conservatively exercise for the mood-enhancing and sleep benefits. I walk every day and do very light strenght training: Modified plank and push-ups, etc...

If we don't excel at health, the only other option is disease.

Good post, Ms. J. Any public pool even if saline filtered has to have some chlorine. I got the specs on the Equinox pool and it was supposed to have no more chlorine than tap water but I smelled chlorine in my skin even after showering so I haven't gone back yet because it seemed like another source of uncertainty.

I second that on salt water pools. The swimming instructor at my gym said that the pool was designed to be salt water and it was advertised as such. As time went on, maintenance of salt water exceeded that of chlorine water. As salt water filter broke, the owner start adding chlorine, etc. to the water. So, what was designed to be salt water is half chlorine now. Be careful with advertisement and always check details.
I also remember time when I ran to gym every day because that was the only place where I was able not to pay attention to pain. I did everything, yoga, cardio, spin classes. They were not recommended, but they were my escape.
