I really have gotten good at making my own stuff after all this time. But it looks like Baby Cakes ship now and it looks like nearly all of their quickbread loaves are LIST 5 YAY! Saddly many of their other recipies use coconut oil. Let them know you prefer canola! (AND WHY!)  Maybe they will change it up!!!

Mimi, I am on the babycakes site right now...how are any of the breads listed above "safe"? None of them look safe to me even for list 5???

Star I tried to repost the ingredients. But nearly ALL the quick breads are list 4/5!!!

Here is one example. But nearly all the quick breads, except for the one with choc chips is list 4 or list 5

Pumpkin Loaf

Garbanzo fava bean flour, potato starch, tapioca flour, sorghum flour, pumpkin, agave, rice milk (filtered water, brown rice, expeller pressed non-gmo canola oil, tricalcium phosphate, natural flavor, sea salt, guar gum, xanthan gum, carob bean gum, carrageenan, vitamin A palmitate, vitamin D2), canola oil, brown rice flour, vanilla extract, cinnamon, baking powder (sodium acid pyrophosphate, sodium bicarbonate, corn starch, monocalcium phosphate), baking soda (sodium bicarbonate), ginger, kosher salt, xanthan gum, nutmeg

So we are allowed all that on list 5?!?!

LOL, Star I am trying to understand what you mean? We are allowed agave sweetened treats on list 5 and beans (so bean flour should be fine?) and unsweetened rice milk? Pumkin, apples, zuchinni?? I am trying to understand what the concerning ingredients would be? I don't see them. I just would not eat 5 pieces, or eat it every day?

Great resource Mimi, Thanks for sharing this! Two questions if you have ordered from them- are their corn products also non-GMO? and Can you order cupcakes without the frosting since those seem to be the offending coconut ingredients?

Do you eat an everyday bread? If so, what is it?

Hi Katie! I have not ordered from them (I don't eat agave yet, maybe I will try for my kids). But honestly I whip up muffins for them in 15 minutes that they love and it is cheaper LOL. I suppose you can special order these without the frosting. I think all their stuff is non-GMO but you would probably have to call them....the canola oil is non-GMO.

Also, you can order their cake mix, which you have to have the other ingredients for. Might be worth a try:

Here you go, the magical foundation of the cakes we make at the bakery, consisting of garbanzo-fava bean flour, rice flour, potato starch, arrowroot, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and xanthan gum. All you need to have in the cupboard is: vanilla, oil, agave nectar, and applesauce (preferably unsweetened).
* This makes 12 cupcakes or one single-layer 8-inch cake.
* 1 year shelf life

Also I always let manufactures know when I contact them, that coconut oil is not tolerated by many people with auto-immune conditions and can be too strong and can they please look at other oils and butter. Some have been responsive. Baby steps. Ugh, I HATE that the paleo movment has made coconut oil into such a big deal. I hope Dr. B can blog on this more. I sometimes think about starting an advocacy website to debunk coconut and sugar as safe foods.

As for daily bread, LOL with my candida I don't eat any bread right now, just the odd rice cake, maybe a potato or I bake with a little sweet potato. I plan to eventually try Alvarado Street sprouted wheat bread, Ezeikiel English muffins from that companprobably Canyon Bakehouse breads, local sourdough (partially digested wheat is tolerated by a lot of people). Speltright looks like a good company and one of their bagels is very low sugar. A lot of the Food for Life breads are probably list 4/5. I know you don't do rice that much now, but they have a lot of different breads and low sugar english muffins in the freezer section:

As an occasional bread I might ask Dr. Brizman about the multi grain sprouted (but there are soybeans down the list)

Trader Joes Sprouted Wheat has no soy in it. Sprouted is not a flour, so does not spike blood sugar.

Also Katie, what about this one:

This should be Dr. B approved

Mimi, sorghum flour, guar gum, xanthan gum, carrageenan... So you are saying all those ingrediants you can have on list 5. I know agave is list 5 and I cannot wait :):):)

Star sorghum is a grain. All of the commercial nut milks have the other ingredients you listed and she usually approves commercial nut milks by list 4. Are they a good thing? They are used as stabilzers and preservatives in nut and grain milks. So, if you want to make your own almond milk, it will be tastier and will last in the fridge about 3 days. If not, then you are going to be exposed to some of this stuff. Not ideal. Moderation is the key.
