Hi All
I cant figure out what is causeing my bloating, as I am bloated all the time. I was doing much better for two weeks, bloating wise, but then it came back really bad :(. Dr. B has doubled my OO and SF, but it is not helping the bloating. I am assuming it is killing a lot of candida. I read conflicing things about candida diet foods on the web. I basically follow list 3 but only about 2 teaspoons of cream in my coffee and no other dairy now, not even butter. Only having 1/2 serving of fruit (or no fruit). I read that almond flour is a no-no on candida diet I guess because it just provides food for candida without having any of the pre-biotic (good bacteria feeding) fiber of brown rice or brown rice cereal. I guess I will just go to no grains or fruit for a while and see if it helps my bloating. I don't really understand how one can be on list 3 and fighting candida.
Mimi i have been having the
Mimi i have been having the same problem. She took me off ooo all together. I never had bloating as a problem (maybe in the beg of treatment but it all went away once I cut the devil, gluten) but now since starting SF I am bloated. I eat list 3/4. Matianever told me any different. It is after each meal no matter what I eat and I eat almonds daily as a snack. Are almonds a no no or just the flour? I really only eat grapes on occasion fruit wise and avocados and I will eat some of that dalfours jelly on occasion. And when I go out to eat I will eat a regular hamburger roll approved by matia "every once in awhile". I have been having a lotof dieoff ... Like every die off symptom you can think of. I would say my biggest is loose stool, bloating, nausea. I am not on probiotics and when I am off the Mega my stools get all jacked up. I heart mega haha.
And I eat a lot of butter,
And I eat a lot of butter, cheese, etc.
Mimi, I'm having the same
Mimi, I'm having the same problem now with trying to figure out the candida. I'm like you.. not sure how I can be so far into treatment and still fighting candida. I'm going to talk with her about this at my next appointment this week. In any case, as you know I've cut all dairy except a very small amount of butter. Some days I eat no butter at all. I've also cut all fruit and nuts, including the flours. This past week I have cut all gluten and about 75% of my starch intake. I'm considering making the gluten-free jump completely, but am not quite sure yet. I now only eat a very small amount of potatoes or rice a day for the last week. My diet is consisting mainly of meat, non-starchy veggies, and eggs. This is very frustrating after I've recently been on a full List 4 diet. The only instruction she gave me was to cut fruit, the rest I have done on my own out of instinct to kill candida. When I significantly reduced my starches, I had two days of noticable and unpleasant die off. She has also recently completely switched my herbs around, so this could also have to do with it.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know that you're not in that candida boat alone. I'm not really sure what the answer is... still trying to figure it all out as well. But yes, it is very frustrating.
THANKS to both of you for
THANKS to both of you for sharing! I have gone 2 days with no grains at all. This is the first time since starting treatment. Did not make a difference tho. But I did use almond flour this morning and not sure if that is really good with candida. Mostly I have hard boiled eggs, tomatoes and avocado for breakfast, or fried eggs with pesto and tomatoes. I am surprisingly not getting hungry without the grains. I have a few cashews if I get hungry. The only dairy is a a splash of cream in my coffee. She has not given me any dietary advice except to cut carbs out at dinner, and experiment with carbs to see how much my body can handle. Well, apparently not any??? She told me regarding the bloating to switch up my protocol. Interesting Tink, when you said you had die off after cutting grains. I am having a mild headache all day today and this is day two of no grains!
Stargazer I don't understand how she is letting you eat freely while on the candida stuff? AND you are having die off. I really don't get it. Everything I read on line about this is so strict: no dairy, low grains, low fruit, never bread, etc I get VERY confused about this! She did tell me a little butter was fine, and some candida websites say NO dairy at all.
I just don't get how my bloating nearly disappeared for a few weeks and now it is horrible again. Thanks so much for posting. I figure it is better to follow the traditional candida diet (within her guidelines) for now. She did say if I drop the carbs too low I might get very irritable and she does not want that so I will have to watch for that.

Star Gazer, as for almonds,
Star Gazer, as for almonds, all I know is that on some candida diets they are not allowed in the first phase. you can always take them out and see. They can be a gut irritant, so it is worth investigating

I have an appt on the 11th
I have an appt on the 11th and I am going to ask her. All I am craving is carbs and I get dizzy if I dont eat them. I emailed her regarding this and she responded and said "use your judgement". I only eat a carb for lunch and dinner. I feel so weird if I dont eat carbs.. For a couple days I had not eaten any carbs (not on purpose) it just happned to be what I cooked didnt have any. I was feeling so weird and then thought back and realized I hadnt had any carbs in like 2-3 days. And I get that feeling now if I dont eat carbs. Eating carbs does not make my symptoms better or worse.
I don't have time to really
I don't have time to really write a detailed response but what I am thinking is Dr B's protocol is totally different from many other Candida protocols- exactly why I liked her thinking from the start. I would just follow what she says on this- obviously using your judgement if something seems hugely bothersome. A lot of what she does is helping the body to adapt so taking out all these things doesn't seem to be the point. Like I said- I have no time to write- this is just the tip of the iceberg of my thought on t his. Kind of akin to taking out mercury fillings etc- rather than do that- she helps the body adapt to it and get well despite them.
ps- if I cut out much more
ps- if I cut out much more carbs- I think I would get way too thin- not sure but I def need it especially in the morning
because part of what I am
because part of what I am thinking is, "What happens if youput the butter etc back in eventually?"
I have a question re bloating
I have a question re bloating, may be a silly question but i'll ask anyway...
what does bloating feel like? what happens? is it when you feel gassy? Reason I ask is because I think I feel bloated but not entirely sure. I can't tell if my stomach is sticking out because i've just eaten a meal or if i'm bloated! Boaz asks me about it and I'm always unsure whether to say yes or no.
For me, bloating is my
For me, bloating is my stomach looks 4 months pregnant, and not flat like it used to. Sometimes it gets worse after lunch for the rest of the day, but lately I wake up with it. My clothes feel funny and I look like I have a pooch there. She has asked if it feels swollen or gassy or different things. It feels like someone is pushing OUT on my stomach. It is probably trapped gas in my small intestine and also my cells holding onto excess water. In the morning it feels like a hard lump down there instead of my old flat tummy :(

Deir thanks for the reminder.
Deir thanks for the reminder. I appreciate what you are saying! (I say it often, and then forget in my own case). She did say to take out carbs at dinner because we don't have the energy requirements at night. I was suprised to hear that her own family (even her kids!) don't usually eat carbs at dinner, just the odd yam :) But I am getting a slight headach from cutting carbs at breakfast and lunch too, so guess I will keep some in. She told me a while ago though to pay attention to what is making the bloating worse, but I really don't know. Especially at this point, as I bloat all day.

And can I just add, I am SICK
And can I just add, I am SICK of worrying about everything that goes in my mouth, and watching my parents that are living with us eat crap and go about their lives. Sigh

Oh and have to add, my bowel
Oh and have to add, my bowel movements are impressive these days, so I am pleased about that!!!

ok thanks mimi, I think I
ok thanks mimi, I think I suffer from bloating too particularly around my period.
I read somewhere that if you
I read somewhere that if you are bloated then you can't suck your stomach in very much, is that true? also i keep having to burp after my meal...normal?!
You know- I guess I am just
You know- I guess I am just built with a bit of a belly- my husband likes it- I never had a super flat tummy even when I was dancing all day at 25. Maybe your body has just changed a little? Embrace the curves. LOL I know when I feel bad- i get the IC belly swelling but generally this is a very low concern for me in the hierarchy of IC symptoms. I have been asked 2x if I was pregnant though. Idiots! One time by a nasty woman I know who I swear was just trying to be mean and another time by a man and I told him "Yes." Thought that was funny. We all know it is tough to so strictly limit- so why add anymore stress by trying to cross reference every other candida plan?
Yes THANKS Deir. I agree. I
Yes THANKS Deir. I agree. I really think tho in my case with the bloating it was overnight when I got IC, and I don't feel right in my clothes. And finally, I had two weeks a few weeks ago where my bloating was waaaay down and I felt near normal. This went on for some time. This is the other reason I know things are not right in there!
SSs7, Unless you eat super fast and swallow air (which alone is not good ;) , a lot of burping after a meal is not normal. It is part of the digestive imbalance. Common, not normal. Mention it to Dr. B on your next call, even ask about it you may get an explanation.

I hear ya! I just really
I hear ya! I just really think this is going to get better no matter what you eat (not sugar/alcohol obviously but Dr's diet) You had a few good weeks and you will soon have more and more
Oddly enough I cut out
Oddly enough I cut out almonds today after all this almond talk and I do feel better symptoms wise! Dont know if this is a coincidence of not...
Almonds can cause frequency
Almonds can cause frequency and other symptoms. She told me to take them out for a few weeks and when I add them back, only a few servings per week.

mimi, i am curious if that is
mimi, i am curious if that is all tree nuts that cause frequency or just almonds.
Atraylor, for those of us
Atraylor, for those of us with a lot of inflammation, and a chronic disease process that has been brewing for years, we can be vulnerable to high vitamin foods (like extra virgin olive oil, and butternut squash, for example). If you look up the folate content of almonds it is very high. This is why they bother some people at some time during treatment, but not forever. Also moderation. I don't think they bother me but I dont eat them a lot. When I was eating almond butter every day, perhaps the folate was buidling up and maybe it was bothering me but hard to tell as there were other things going on at the time. So for those of us with IC, the folate may be the culprit. They also are high in fiber which can irritate the gut.
Nut allergies are a different thing and that is not usually the issue when it comes to frequency, from what I understand. A lot of nuts harbor mold, which, if you had a stronger immune system, your body could fight that better. People with weakened immune systems have nut allergies. HTH

sorry to keep coming back to
sorry to keep coming back to the subject of bloating....
i've noticed after eating, my stomach does look bigger. But the lower part (below belly button) looks bloated rather than the whole abdomen. When i press on that part, it makes me want to burp (again - sorry to keep mentioning burping!!) - that surely means i am bloated, right?
I may have made a connection between carbs (rice, potato, rice pasta) and bloating - a possible cause?
Below the belly button is the
Below the belly button is the small intestine so this makes sense. Most of us have some level of compromised small intestine so digestion needs to be improved on a lot of levels, in most cases
