Hi ladies, what kind of exercises do you do?  I used to exercise ridicoulsly a lot in the past in a self-destructive way I guess (I cans ee this now) and now I don't have motivation, and lots of pain, and running, wieight lifting kind of seems against my current spirit, I have no idea. I plan to start yoga again and wonder if you specifially got help from any type of yoga. I heard kundalini is very good? Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Walking every morning. It really helps to clear my head and help me relax. I also try to meditate and deep breath a few times during the day. I haven't tried yoga yet but I am sure it would be helpful.

In the early stages, I suggest light walking or gym machines if you can handle them.  The suggestion of a.m. walks (outside is best!) is esp. good for calming the mind before you start your day.  Beware of ab exercises -- anything that stresses that region tends to set off the bladder b/c of the muscle tightening there.  Yoga can be great, but beware of kundalini/other yoga practices that move energy in the body or involve odd breathing exercises.  For normal health & wellness I think they're great, but in the sensitive IC body they tend to exacerbate things.  Matia doesn't want people doing other modalities like energy work, even reiki and such, and I have a hunch this falls in the same category.  I know it messed me up before.

Do you mind if I ask what happened, you said it messed you up before?

The reason why I asked yoga is because I have a sprained ankle and I am not allowed to have long walks for a while; I am trying to learn not to push myself. I thought yoga could be fine but forgot about the energy flow. Yes walking is going to be on my list after ankle heals, long light walking. I need to change my mentality about exercise I think. Walking never seemed to be exercise to me before, it was more like fun. I must have been abusing my body by overexercising until it started to hurt, and it seems like  now my body is controling me. I wonder if anyone felt the same way???

IC Hope-
Just curious, where did you learn that anything that stresses the abs irritates the bladder?

If you do a search on IC and yoga, there is an article by Dr. Emmy Ripoll & Dawn Mahowald. They mention acu-yoga as an alternative to more strenious yoga forms like iyengar. Being trained in iyengar yoga at a young age, I now hugely regret that many years passed since i stopped practicing regularly mostly due to laziness. I do yoga at home at my own pace, since many classes outside are more fast paced. It helps me mentally, and gives me patience and peace. Hopefully someday, when i heal, i'll pick it up slowly again. I did realize that it aggrevates my symptoms, when i do asanas to energize the root and naval chakras.
