I just cannot keep it and have to share. This is the best most helful blog I ever found online that profoundly effect my life. This is a big statement, but so true.
From Sarah's The healthy home econnomist's blog you can find ton of links and references to other resources related to healthy living. There are a lot of free receipies that can work if not for me, then for my family. Reading the blog and planning and attempting to prepare healthy meals for my kids add enthusiasm to my IC-striken time.
On another note, I signed up for Weston A Price membership. Again, the best thing I've done for myself this year, so worth the price.
My lifestyle will never be the same.
Just wanted to share because you need to know! :)

mercola
Is a bit of a nut. I would be careful about what you choose to believe from Weston A Price foundation and Mercola!!
One issue I have with Mercola
One issue I have with Mercola is the amount of selling he does.I never trust anyone fully hwo is advertising while he gives info but there is some good info there. I have some issues with Weston Price foundation too particularly Sally Fallon's info on breastfeeding. Not a fan. But I do think Weston Price himself had amazing information about native cultures and diets and teeth for the average American who has been convinced of the evil of fat, eggs, and meat, I think "Nourishing Traditions" can be a good starting off point. You have to read so much information and then be discerning enough to whittle it down for yourself. That isn't easy at all! My favorite book so far is "Real Food" by Nina Planck. I've read so much baout nutrition in the past few years and this is my favorite.
Blondy- Thanks for the suggestions. I'm glad you feel so excited about all this new info!
Researchnerd, can you
Researchnerd, can you elaborate please?
Mercola
Like Deir says, he has an agenda. He's anti-agave, but the biological mechanisms he uses to explain this, are contrary to what I've learned. He also sells a ton of stuff, and some of it with sugar! He belives that sugar is better than agave, which I believe to be crazy. I'm more on the Lustig/Yudkin tip. Some of his information is good, but I'm skeptical, because of the sales thing. I also am studying epidemiology, so I pay close attention to research design.
Weston A Price foundation, again, has an agenda. I'm focusing on epidemiology of complementary/alternative medicine as well as nutrition, but its very very hard to do. I doubt some of their tactics/design etc. Professionally, I would never associate myself with any of this, because in the larger research community, they are not taken seirously.
That said, some of it is interesting, its just hard to sift through all the crazy info out there.
In my humble opinion,
In my humble opinion, research community is not immune from bias because most research is sponsored by someone who has clear agenda. I read about university professors who were denied tenures and lost their contracts because they were unwilling to skew their research. One of them is fom NY btw, environmental research.
While Mercola clearly is a businessman, WAP foundation is not profit. I am not defending WAP though because I simply don’t know enough about it. One of the most important pieces of advice I learned from it is about raw milk, which you mentioned you like.
The bottom line is there is so much information out there. With a lot of us having a less than perfect experiences in the past, it is hard to know who to trust. I am envious (in a positively way) of your direct access to multitude of research data and most importantly that you are able to form your own educated opinion. It almost feels that one has to make a career out of IC and subsequently healthy lifestyle in order feel better.
Blondy- have you checked out
Blondy- have you checked out the Nourishing Traditions cookbook? Of course not a lot applies to us right now but there is so much really interesting stuff in there and recipes you can use with your family. Like I said before I don't agree with a lot of the author's breastfeeding advice but that doesn't apply to you anyway.I pick and choose what I like. it is a fun book
