I'm so tempted to go to the sauna to relieve the head pressure. I'm sure this is inflamed sinuses & I know it's a good sign that this is happening. It seems to improve the more sleep I have - 10 hours seems to preferrable over 8, not easy for an insomniac! Of course I've read that drinking more fluids can help to thin any mucus.
Whats' the problem with using a steam room or sauna, does anyone know? My own thoughts are that damp heat could make bacteria populate & is home to fungus..
Any tips would be appreciated, thanks.
Infrared sauna
I am still not on Dr. Brizman´s treatment protocol, so I am the last one who should give any advice to you. I don´t know if sauna is contraindicated with the treatment. This is just my own experience with infrared (IR) sauna, which is more gentle than normal sauna. I spent 2 yrs on the long-lasting ABX treatment (because of my IC) and I used IR sauna regularly for the detoxification process, especially in winter time. I know that a lot of people using ABX for Lyme disease, Mycoplasma infection etc. use it. for the same reason. The temperature inside is between 45 - 60 Celsius degrees (113 - 140 F degrees, hope my converter transformed it correctly) and this is what bacterias hate ang fungus too. The general overheting of the body for a short time (30 minutes) should supposedly bother bacterias. And I can say, perhaps this is not false, because it helped me a lot - my skin was much much better, my muscles were more relaxed (pelvic muscles too) and although I felt very tired immediately after that, drunk a lot of water and went to sleep, the following days I felt very good. And my bladder tolerated it very well (I was really afraid of bladder reactions, but they never come). Later I have tried normal sauna and my bladder was also OK with it, but it was too strong for me and I did not feel good after it (fatigue, the feeling of total exhaustion). So - no more experiments there.
As I say above, it´s just my experience, I don´t have the courage to recommend it to anyone. It would be better to ask Dr. Brizman, what she thinks about. I will ask her during my appt with her.
Hi Michaela, thanks yes I'd
Hi Michaela, thanks yes I'd heard people including doctor brizman mention the IR saunas but not sure if they've been okayed exactly. I'll have to look into if & where they're available here in the UK. I'm a bit wary of regular steam rooms & saunas as I was using these just before my bladder problems started.
Thanks again for the info
I believe we're not supposed
I believe we're not supposed to do anything that alters our body temperature significantly. Dr B told me I should stay away from very hot yoga both bc my body is too sensitive to temp changes, And bc hot yoga detoxifies your body too quickly, which I believe is also the case with saunas.
Thank you for your opinion.
That´s why I have recommended mismadmolly to ask Dr. Brizman about that, preferably before any experiments...
Thanks peeps. I know
Thanks peeps.
I know healing is a slow process for good reason but it would be so nice to have comprehensive details about why we shouldn't do certain things i.e. raising or lowering the body temperature too quickly. It seems like the obvious thing to do is often the opposite of what Dr B prescribes., but they do say goods things come to those who wait!
If you have any more info on the reason to avoid big changes in body temperature do let me know, I'm always interested :)
