This is a nice article regarding this topic. Often it is said that certain vaccines are mandatory even though in small writing there will be a disclaimer expalining your rights to decline. There is so much pressure placed upon us in the medical system. And while it may seem that vaccines have nothing to do with IC, it is one more thing that we do in medical care without often thinking through the potential for unwanted effects in our bodies or the bodies of our children. A patient came to me recently saying her doctor said she had to get her tetanus booster, "it is mandatory". "Mandatory?", I asked, according to whom? This patient declined. Another patient was told something similar and didnt decline and paid a few weeks of consequences. It is OK to think before saying yes and to not do what everyone else does just because it is done. Questions
While I've tried to read about the topic over the years theres so much conflicting info I still don't know where to stand, but I'm by no means super-educated on it, so these questions are purely out of ignorance & wanting to understand, not challenging you:
What about the occasional outbreaks in the news I've heard of? Some that said certain diseases (measeles?) that were previously extinguished are now popping up? And stories of outbreaks in areas that had a larger % of un-immunized kids, as if the 'threshold' of non-immunized got too high -- not enough of the herd?
And is the author/source of this credible? There's so much on the web it's hard to discern sources.
