People often fall into pot holes early in treatment, and sometimes even later in treatment doing things that are commonly known as healthy. But, what is healthy? While there are general things that are indeed healthy, those things may not be healthy for you right now. For example, using extra virgin olive oil is healthy-hands down. However, extra virgin olive oil in a person who is very symptomatic with IC will do nothing but escalate the pain levels. When this happens, this means inflammation is going up. That isn't healthy. Eating raw veggies gives you more vitamins per serving no question. But, if you are having a rough time with digestion, and there is an accumlulation of a lot of "cold" in your digestive tract, incorporating more cooked veggies often will allow better digestive results until the body is better balanced.
This issue came up with the bone broth last month-everyone was doing it-not ok for early or mid stages of IC. This month it is vegetable juices or any juices. Juicing is not something you want to be doing early in treatment, it will throw everything right off. It is questionable (to me) how much to do it later in treatment, I dont recommend it unless it is balanced with other proteins. However, it is very imbalancing early in treatment and can render everything ineffecitve!
So, be sure to really read the diet to be clear!

Olive Oil
I am so glad you mentioned the Olive Oil. I have been searching and searching for TRUE Olive Oil. I just went to another Whole Foods yesterday and read every bottle of oil on the shelf and they are ALL Extra Virgin. I looked at my local grocery stores here in Missouri as well and found one that just said Olive Oil and on the back the ingredients were a mix of extra virgin oils. Does anyone have a name brand that they use that is true Oiive Oil? I was going to search online to see if i could have one shipped to me but am worried I will find extra virgin oil as one of the ingredients once I receive it. Any help would be appreciated I am tired of going store to store.
thank you!

Thank you, I have not been
Thank you, I have not been juicing but Husband has wanted to start. So I am glad to read this so I know not to do it now.
This is in response to flygirl, but,
the system wouldnt let me reply directly to that one-sorry. So when you juice veggies you create too much sudden alkalinity and when you do that, you start to skew the pH-esp when you do it regularaly. The pH is something the body is struggling with already-usually too acid. But, it needs to start to regulate its pH by itsel, and if you keep alkalizing, it will create more problems in that it changes the body's ability to regulate the bacterial balance in the small intestine. Yes, you can do this later, when the body is in a good balance, but, when juicing veggies, I would add in protein with it to balance the pH of the drink.
Olive Oil
I have had the same problem finding good olive oil. Currently, I buy Great Value extra light, tasting olive oil at Walmart. I haven't found a high end brand without EVOO.
Can you explain in a little
Can you explain in a little more detail how juicing and other "healthful" practices throw everything off for us IC'ers? Will it be possible to enjoy those things once we are healed?
Trader Joe's
Trader Joe's, if you have one near where you live, sells straight olive oil. It was the only place I ever found that carried it.
Olive oil?
Went to Trader Joe's today and did not find plain olive oil, everything had extra virgin olive oil in it as well, is it Trader Joe brand?
Yes, TJ brand
Yes, it was the Trader Joe's brand. It's possible your store may not carry it. You could ask them if they would ship some to the store for you, or you could buy a case or whatever. I have found that almost every grocery store/health food store is more than happy to order something from their distributors for me when they don't carry it in the store.
Thanks!
Thanks Murphy325 good to know that is an option. I will have to ask the next time I am there. Trader Joe's is relatively new to the area, so I am sure they do not have half the things available like they would in one of their larger stores.
