This is an article about the mind/gut relationship from the point of view of the vagus nerve. This is part of the perspective and very interesting. Much of what is thought in the world of psychiatric medicine is that the mind effects the body. But, I have always insisted, it is the other way around in many instances as well. And, this dynamic is of equal weight and importance.
When reading, please keep in mind, this is only part, and one perspective. The specifics are not the point. The point is that the gut is able to effect the brain, the nervous system, and so much in the body. The health of the gut drives our beings. In classical Chinese medicine, this was one way of treating the body--it was called the Earth school, the Earth being the center of all problems. The Earth element is the digestive system, referred to as the Spleen and Stomach. Anyway, this is a nice and informative illustration:http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2012/05/03/probiotics-impact-brain-performance.aspx
