Often women come to me sick with IC with the unrealistic expectation to try and get pregnant a few months after they have begun treatment. I have turned several patients away over the years because of this because this is not something that I could make happen for them without a lot of pain. But, for those who waited until more balance was achieved in the body, pregnancy went really well, and the result-a healthy wonderful baby.
I have not posted as many stories on the kids page as there have actually been because not everyone has written in, but, this one just came in from someone who never believed she could even get married let alone get pregnant or have a baby. I am so happy for her that her dreams have been realized. She worked really hard for it. The story is posted here, and will go to a permanent place on the kids page.

" I'm 35 and recently gave birth to my now 7 month old son. I was diagnosed with IC when I was 19 after a severe urinary tract infection. I suffered with it until I was 26, when it took the turn for the worst after another infeciton. I was left in constant pain, with bladder spasms, frequency, urgency and completley incapable of having a physical relationship. It left me exhausted. After many courses of antibiotics and antifungals prescribed by my doctor I was even worse. I came across Matia on line and started my treatment age 28. I had slow but good progress (I had alot of getting better to do). The diet was fantastic and over 4 years of treatment my body returned to health. During the 4 years I was improving monthly so much so that I was working, studying and having relationships. I started trying for a baby at 34 and fell pregnant after the second month of trying. I was very anxious initially as I was sure that the pressure on my bladder and the hormonal changes were going to trigger my IC symptoms. However my bladder remained calm throughout 9 months! I did have a little bit of frequency (but not any more than any of my pregnant friends and it was different to IC frequency, as I would get immidiate relief after empying and it never worried me) My baby was healthy and my pregnancy progressed well. I gave birth at 40 weeks to a 3.7kg (8lb 4oz) little boy naturally without any pain relief apart from gas and air. I did have a little pelvic floor weakness for 6 weeks (I would leak if I sneezed) but that's all gone. I also had some mild sensations around the urethra after emptying but that resolved. Everyting is now back to normal. I still can't believe I went through such a good pregnancy and birth after being so worried about the IC making a come back. I firmly believe that the good diet and supplements helped me conceive and helped my body stay healthy. Thank you for making my dreams of having a family a reality Matia |
