The information on rice is understandably causing a lot of concern. Here is a good article on the subject, hopefully this will help: http://www.enviroblog.org/2012/09/getting-arsenic-out-of-your-and-your-k...

I'm feeling so conflicted and confused on this issue. Are we now supposed to strictly limit rice? Such interesting and disturbing link with the bladder disorders mentioned.
Obviously your patients have gotten well with rice in the protocol. When I tried the strict Paleo lifestyle last year (no grains), my bladder symptoms got slightly worse. Then when I switched and went back from list 3 to 2, I gave up quinoa. Since we can't have starchy veggies like sweet potatoes or squashes, what is left...just white potatoes? That's going to be tough with traveling. I can avoid rice but only if I can allow something else in to replace it and I won't do wheat.
What is your best advice here for those of us in treatment?
Rice and IC
I do not think eating rice will prevent you from getting your bladder better. I simply posted all of this just FYI-for your health, which, I often do if I find something out about general well being. I think given this information, it is rice to limit rice intake. I did not know about this myself. So, yes, you can eat some strachy veggies, potatoes, sweet potatoes (when ready) and other grains later when you can toelrate them. Beans are a great starch. And, for anyone not on a gluten free diet-spelt and kamut and whole grain wheat are also options.

later, other grains-like amarantha, millet, and Teff-my new favorite are also good options. I have been making Teff cakes-alone, which, it says not to do, but, also have mixed it with other flour and it is so tasty!
Agreed, I use teff alone to
Agreed, I use teff alone to make waffles, absolutely delicious! They always turn out great without adding any other flour. I was wondering if quinoa flakes for hot cereal would be easier to digest then quinoa? A little worried about eating my organic brown rice hot cereal every morning with knowing this information.
quinoa flakes
should be easier on your system than quinoa yes
Rice
I did a little research and it seems that the rice grown in the Midwest is the problem. They used to use arsenic on cotton crops and the fields now grow rice. All of Lundberg rice products are grown in California and inorganic arsenic in not present in the soil. Also, rice from small organic farms in India seems to be okay.

Thank you for doing that research!!!

Thank you! This is incredibly informative.

Matia, do you still bake with Pamela's baking mix? It has different kinds of rice.

Well, now that I know all of this, which, I did not know before, I am not going to use it anymore, sadly. It is a great product. This is really the only rice that I use in my home, we happen not to eat rice, I just dont particularly like it. I think I will start using Teff and perhaps combine the Teff with other grains like spelt, and amaranth, and others.
