Week's End

I thought this week I would go over some practical issues to think about:

1) make sure there are no added ingredients that you are not aware of in your food. For example, I had a patient this week who was eating ground turkey day after day not realizing that it had rosemary extract added to it for flavoring. She couldn't understand why she was flaring so badly until she realized what else it contained. So, read your labels and make sure what you think you are eating is what you are really eating. 2) If you have been told to take something by another doctor, please make sure it does not clash with what we are doing. Another patient this week came down with a serious, what she thought, was a bladder infection it was so bad, and she had been taking a supplement that caused it. 3) Remember that NSAIDS (like Tylenol, advil, ibuprofen, motrin, etc..., particularly and other pain medications may greatly affect your treatment. Please only take OTC medications when absolutely necessary. Please make sure that we are on the same page on the medications you are taking so that the effects of them may be factored in to treatment 4) Remember that this is a process and not a static treatment. So, if something is taken longer that it is necessary, it can cause imbalance and therefore, symptoms. So, please check in with me on regular intervals so that we can stay on top of things. 5) Make sure you are not putting strong chemicals, like cleaning products (use gloves), or too strong beauty items on your hair or body. All of these things make a difference. 6) Eat well, and regularly. Include good quality animal protein each day. 7) Rest, and focus on being positive and happy. There is always so many things to be grateful for as difficult as things may seem. I am going to creat a post in the next few days on my concept of mental house cleaning. Look for that post. It should be useful and insightful. So keep your eyes out for it and hopefully if you can incorporate it, it will help. Have a great weekend:).

Thanks for this reminder.  I am always trying to remind myself to be happy and focus on the positive.  When I am feeling down and defeated I often look back to earlier this year when I was diagnosed and at my worst and look how far I have come.  I am still struggling but not to the point that I was in January, 2008.  In January I thought that my life as I knew it was over and there wqas not much to look forward to but sticking close to the bathroom.  This week I have attempted a road trip over the next two weeks to see family and attend a wedding.  I t has not been all rosy as I have been reacting to a few things that we are trying, but it is not near as bad as earlier this year.  Last night we had quite a few family members in our hotel room visiting and I was thinking I am so thankful that I had gotten well enough to get to this point.  Today I am going to the wedding and will have to find somewhere else to eat but that is okay as I am just happy that we were able to get here.  There have been some other little perks too.  People think that I look so young yeah.....  I always think that if there are these improvements on the outside then the same must be happening inside.  Time to go and get ready for the day.  Hope you all have a wonderful day.Kriste
