Tummy troubles

Hi all, I ask this for my sister... her 3 and 1/2 month old is having lots of spitting up... tummy troubles. It seems to be getting worse, and last night she was up every hour or so crying. My sister is concerned she is not getting enough to eat, as she spits up so much. She has tried several different formulas (she did try to breast-fed, but ran into many tough problems :(. I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions other that trying some probiotics? She took her to the doctors yesterday, and they just said they can give her a prescription for an antacid if she wanted them to. We all know how that goes, and how it does not address the real problem. Formulas now days can be very harsh in my opinion on little tummies, some of the first ingredients of cottonseed oil/soy.

If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate it!

As if having a new born isn't stressful enough....my sister had a similar problem with her new born. She switched to an organic formula and it made a huge difference. I wouldn't rule out probiotics. They will help with digestion. I would call Natren, they have always answered the phone when I call the 800# , and are very helpful. The number is on their bottle. I would stay away from soy at all costs. What about goats milk. I have heard that it's easier to digest. Matia might have some suggestions. Good luck. Tammy

Kelsey,
Your sister might try pasteurized goats milk.   I used to drink goats milk and bought it directly from a farm.  The lady who owned the farm said that she had some people whose infants couldn't tolerate any kind of milk or formula at all tolerate the goats milk.  The fat globules are a lot smaller and easier to digest, and it is more nutritious than cow's milk.  Make sure it is pasteurized, and also if buying from a farm make sure it is a reputable one.  It is good also if she could get it from a health food store.

Because so many people have an intolerance to cows milk these days, you can find pasteurized goats milk at most health food stores. Please let us know how the little one gets on. Tammy

Ladies for taking the time to help! I told my sister about maybe trying organic formula, and goats milk. I had acually suggested these to her before it had gotten really bad, but wasn't sure if I was missing something. I don't know what she will do now. She is not into the "health" thing like we all are because of IC.
She said the other day that she was doing a little bit better.I think even if she stops all this fussing and spitting up, that my sister would be wise to at least switch her to organic formula, though it can be expensive.

Thanks again!
