Hey ladies!
Dr.B recommended goldenseal after sex if I do have it, and my bladder does NOT tolerate it at all in general so I asked her if I could try cranberry pills JUST for after sex and she okayed to try it for JUST after sex.
I was finally feeling okay enough to do so and try it but my bladder is (surprise) inflamed and I'm pretty sure it's from the pills.
What is it about the cranberry that makes it so terrible for us, the Vitamin C? Or is it sugar from cranberry? It says it has literally just ONE gram of sugars from the cran/d-mannose
It is D-mannose with cranberry and has 50 percent of the daily allowance of Vitamin C....
Needless to say it'll be awhile before I try this again
She recommended just to take an extra dose of my protocol ( acidophilus plus 4 RP) after sex but I'm soooo scared to not use a cleaner afterwards, b/c obviously I want to protect against a UTI...
What do you ladies do/recommend if you have sex?

According to Dr. B: Both partners wash before. You wash before and after. Pee before and after. Drink lots of water. Take your protocol. Does the cranberry supplement have added vitamin C in it? Also, just the naturally occuring Vit. C could be an issue.
Much of the thinking behind the diet proscribed here has alot to do with vitamin/antioxidant content and the body's inappropriate immune response to this early in treatment. From what I understand, it has less to do with natural sugars (e.g. fruits are allowed on list 3) and more to do with vitamins and inflammation.
Easy for me to say, as I have not tried intercourse yet. We do other things right now and try to be creative (but no oral sex for me, as my husband has some yeast issues)
If we don't excel at health, the only other option is disease.

I do have a history of UTI's- treating them with antibiotics and also birth control pills are what kicked off my IC about 9 years ago so I am super precautious about sex.
Mimi how do you know your husband has yeast issues? Did Mattia absolutely say no to oral sex b/c of this? Is this so as not to spread a yeast infection? I suspect my boyfriend does have an imbalance too and am a little worried...
I am so jealous of my girlfriends that don't have to worry about this- one of my friends asked me what a UTI was lol.....seriously? Lucky girl!!!

I will absolutely get the d-mannose if she is okay with it, that's very helpful.
Did you take the d-mannose afterwards this time too or another protocol for after sex? Did she okay d-mannose for you?
She okayed cran plus d-mannose for me so I imagine d-mannose would be allright. I'm sorry that you are feeling pain as well!!
Kinda funny how we both broke down and had sex the same time and started treatment at the same time lol...at least it shows that we were feeling okay enough to try it, which is a great sign :)
I'm positive that we will get there eventually where it doesn't hurt at all but I guess there is more healing to do and over time we will be able to feel better about it but in the interim it does suck!
