Ok, so I just started the program as some of you know about 2.5 weeks ago and I am wondering about the ratio of food on our plate. I find first of all that I am craving sooooooooooo much fat. Not sure why. Boaz says all ok in moderation. I am wondering how people are really balancing their food on their plate to make this work (and to possibly lose some of this cushion).
I am carrying 30 lbs of what he says is protective cushion (I wasn't even this heavy when I was pregnant???) and when I am hungry my bladder is much much worse. And I am hungry a lot!!! And for some wacky reason fried potatoes in any form makes my bladder feel better? Not good for weight loss.
Also, a few weeks in now I am feeling malnourished. I used to drink a lot of green smoothies and the strangest thing is that I love vegetables but most lettuces cause a flare, cucumber and celery cause flares. Veggies hurt?!?!? And carbs soothe. Strange. So my ratio right now is more carbs which can't be good.
And what does everyone snack on? Yesterday I did celery and rice cakes. Big flare.
I just feel like drinking a big smoothie, especially in the morning when I wake up feeling tremory-rumbling...has anyone experienced this?

I saw that you said you wouldn't eat a carb without something green. It's actually more important not to eat a carb without a protein. But yes, get plenty of veggies. Early in treatment, I couldn't eat veggies without my carb and protein, or my bladder would hurt more. I also couldn't tolerate rice cakes very well.

Yay for fat! And yes, if I don't do grains my bladder hurts too! Tonight I did rice pasta sautéed cabbage and ground turkey with garlic powder salt and basil...I find I am heavier on the salt for flavor. Going to try to cut out bread possibly and see how that goes...

What toast are you eating? I hope it does not have yeast??
Only French Meadows makes a commercially available yeast-free, sugar free spelt loaf. It ONLY has spelt, water, salt. It is pretty good and you can ask your local health food store to carry it. Otherwise make your own spelt or rice flower loafs (You can also make a quick bread with potato flour and eggs and salt and oil. PM me if you want the recipe. It is ok but the spelt bread is really good:
3 cups Spelt (or brown rice Flour-but whole grain spelt is much better IMO)
1/2 Tsp salt
1 TBS Baking Powder
1 TBS olive oil
1 cup of water, or enough to make a nice quickbread dough
Mix dry ingredients first. Add wet. Bake in loaf pan at 350 for 50 minutes or unitl toothpick comes out clean.
Toast this bread. Yum.
Are you gaining more weight? Go weigh yourself right now and tell me? I bet not. My appetite was HUGE when I started treatment. I ate what I wanted and lost 9 pounds.
Second, dont be afraid of healthy fats. I think 3 tablespoons of fat per meal. (I bet I have more than that sometimes and have not gained any weight). At the beginning of a gut healing protocol your body replaces the sugar you have taken out with fat. This will even out.
If you are hungry, eat more--just in the right ratio.
I have read in the Diet section of this website that it is ok to have 1/2 carb and 1/4 1/4 of the others. Just be sure Boaz knows you are doing this. As you feel stronger you can adjust the ratio back to 1/3 portion for each.
Are you sure that cooked veggies are bothering your bladder when you eat with meat or eggs? How do you know? I ask because you have a lot of inflammation and detox right now so it may be hard to tell what is causing your pain. Try to find a least a few veggies that you can eat. Spinach is not on list 1. HAve you made yellow squash fries? (get a french fry cutter-cut frie-shaped squash pieces) roll in rice or spelt flour seasoned with salt and fry untill crispy in olive oil. I used to eat a whole mound of these on list one.
Are you eating red meat every day? You really need to at this point. I know it is not your favorite. Can you ask a good local butcher to make you some nice pre-formed hamburger patties seasoned with salt and garlic powder? They often have this available and if they handle the meat for you I bet it would be easier for you to prepare and eat it. Ground meat is just easier to eat!! Make some tasty meatballs with egg, dried basil, galic powder, lots of salt and freeze. Later you might graduate to a nice stake as you will probably start to crave meat (CRAZY, I know-but it is what your body needs right now)

Well, it is delicious sourdough but I haven't eaten gluten for a long time. Ia m sure it has no impact but at least it is somehting I can do!

I remembered I used to have hard time with cucumber in the begining. Matia said it's rich in potassium and that's why it was causing me discomfort. I started with cauliflower, zucchini, cabbage broccoli and seemed to be ok with all of those for list 1. Also make sure you are not using EVOO at first, and just light olive oil. It's more processed, but easier on your bladder. And one more, carb snacks always pair with protein!!
