Hard day

Ok. So normally I could just brush this off but I have to vent. Something about it made me feel so depressed about this dumb illness. We are living with my in laws for about a year to pay off the debt we incurred from doing IVF. As if the diets not hard enough, try doing it while living with other people. I would love to have my own kitchen. Ugh. Anyways, I've tried explaining IC to them before, and Dr Bs treatment and so forth but I don't think they really retain the info or understand all that well. They are the sweetest people in the world but my MIL can be unintentionally insensitive. So they kinda just think I'm eating healthy, and they came into the kitchen with some oranges and asked if I could have some. When I said no, they asked why, and I tried to explain that we are trying to control the inflammation in my body to help my bladder heal, and I can't have things that have sugar in them. So then the words that totally deflated my spirits came.... "I'm sure glad I don't have what you have."  (Gee thanks) Ya I don't want it either!!! Man, talk about taking the wind out of my sails. I hate that it had that affect on me, but it did. I don't know I just needed to vent. Thanks for listening :) need to find a way to get my spirits back up.

Thanks for listening to my rant you guys, my spirits are back up today.. I'm over it. Oh my gosh I love all of the stories you guys are sharing about people who think they are healthy, it's making me laugh over here. I can't judge too harshly because if IC didn't happen to me I would probably be one of those people (ok maybe not as bad but still). That is one thing to be grateful for, for learning the knowledge on how to eat and live a healthy life. One of my biggest pet peeves are people who work out so they can eat whatever they want and then dont understand why they are not losing weight. It's like.. Really?!?! Is weight all that matters to some people? Never mind all of the poisons your feeding your body, as long as your thin! It's so sad that this is the message that's being sent to people. Ill be damned if my daughter grows up with that. I've truly had to retrain my brain in how I think of food. It can not be  used for boredom or comfort, it just can't. For me anyways.. I try to think of food as medicine and nutrition only. It's hard in this food crazy world (or maybe just country) that we live in where eating sugar three times a day is completely normal. Christine gave the perfect example of someone substituting butter for marshmallow fluff.. WOW! I can't believe someone actually thinks that's a healthier substitute. Sounds like a fast track to diabetes. I hope someday our country will become better educated about how to eat healthy. The resources are out there but the problem is people don't want to care. Most of us aren't raised to care about it and dont know any better. I sure wasn't. Eating fast food and freezer meals are what I grew up on! Ok didn't mean to make this so long. Thanks again for everyone who posted :)

Minnie, I have to re-quote you, because it was so eloquent. I wish someone had told me this when I was a young girl. I hope to impart this to my daughters. There is a fabulous curriculum here somewhere, to teach to young girls. It is not enough to just tell them about basic nutrition. We have to get the whole food/emotions/body image connection across to them and re-inforce how food is good medicine and true health.

If we don't excel at health, the only other option is disease.
