I was feeling so good:) I had a really rough period & though that the cramping was an extension of that . I am on the 5th day of my period ( kind of the end) but I am still cramping...burning & pressure through my vagina. The only thing that I have done differently was try a sweet potato last night for dinner. It is a list 4 veggie so I am hoping someone further along can tell. Me if this could be the culprit or just a bad period that. Is lasting longer than normal.

I'm really sorry you are not feeling well. I was going to post my own frustrations when I noticed "HELP".  Your post is exactly what I was going to write.  It has been 2 1/2 weeks that I'm not feeling well with the same symptoms you are experiencing.  I too had a difficult period and ovulation.  Usually the pain will last about a week put this time around it's lasting longer and I'm equally frustrated, tired, scared, sad, angry etc...!  My period has ended and I'm still in pain.  I felt great today but that did not last long.  I have been following the diet with much discipline and no cheating.  I'm also so confused.  This is the longest I've gone without a break in between flare-ups. Honestly, I don't know what I'm doing wrong.  I contacted Dr. B and she made some changes to my protocol.  Have you tried contacting her?  I know through my own experience my pain is worst during my period so that might be why you are suffering.  Have you tried applying some heat?  This gives me some relief.  I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful but sometimes knowing you're not alone in the world can ease your mind just a little.

Sandi, I hope the protocol changes help. I have noticed in reading posts here that this process is not static and at points we get signals from our bodies that it is time to change. This does not mean we are going backwards, but hopefully ready to move to a new level!
Amy- From what I understand, a one-time food reaction should only last a day or so. If it was something new you had added to your diet and were doing it every day, that might be different. I recently started to react to Vitamin D after I had been on it for 6 weeks. It had been fine, but then I guess had built up in my body, and my body decided it was too much for now and my bladder was burning after my dose. It cleared up right away when Dr. B took it out. Do keep her posted.
Amy, I hope you are feeling much better tomorrow or else maybe email Dr. B?
I am trying to understand both of your symptoms. Is it vaginal or bladder?

I empathize! HOWEVER I don't think you should get too worried.
I know for me, my period is the biggest catalyst of my symptoms. I generally experience the worst symptoms during and at the end of my period. Sometimes my period will drag out forever and I'll have residual symptoms from it.
My theory is the hormonal imbalance caused by the period (I think it's a decrease in progesterone?) this messes with the GI tract in many ways, and I find my burning becomes really bad at this point too.
So maybe there is a relapse in symptoms, but remember that menstruation is one of the key ways in which the female body detoxes, so it's normal to experience more symptoms during your period (well, I mean not NORMAL but understandable)
The symptoms decreased before, they'll do it again. Sometimes I'll be totally fine until my period comes, and then my body goes wacky again.
Hard to stay positive and reassured when your hormones are out of wack!
Deep breathing and have faith in the process, I think this sounds totally normal.

HI Mimi,
For me the symptoms are bladder, urethra and vagina especially after I Pee (...sorry)!  Here's what happens:  My bladder starts to tingle, urethra starts to burn, I urinate and finally It starts to burn down below and that includes my bladder and urethra. The pain can last 5 minutes to 1hour and somethimes it will linger for days.  I'm trying to understand what's causing this and the only thing I think of is that I am weaning myself off ELMIRON and maybe the true state of my bladder is back to what it was when I was first diagnosed.  This is how I felt at the beginning so I'm feeling really discouraged.  I haven't been too emotional about my state in a long time but last night it all resurfaced.  All those feeling of insecurity and wondering if this is how I'm going to spend the rest my life came into question.  I'll be turning 40 in the summer and this is not how I imagined myself.  I'm really sorry to be laying all of this on you.

Hi everyone,
Dr. Brizman once told me that our periods often get worse before they get better as part of treatment.  That's because your period is a natural time to clean out your body. So as our bodies clean and get stronger we'll start working harder and harder to push out toxins and impurities. It's a sign of healing.
Hopefully that will make you feel a little better (well mentally at least!) as you suffer through nasty periods.

Hi Sandi
I too get the burning/stinging in the bladder and urethra especially right after urinating. I was on the elmiron for 3 1/2 months before seeing Dr Brizman and it had just started to help the burning etc had stopped. I decided as soon as I started treatment to just stop the Elmiron, so I stopped it the next day, I figured why postpone it. The buring and stinging did increase after the 1st week, but has since improved, I still get it but it lasts about 5 -10 mins and I dont get it every time either more so at night. Don't feel discouraged as things will improve again,

Thank-you ladies for your responses.  I hope today's a better day for all of us.  I have an appointment with Dr. B next week and I have so many questions about how I'm supposed to be feeling.  Should we not have pain while taking the herbs and if we are in pain should the protocol be adjusted?  I'm just so confused about what's normal (so to speak) and what is not.

Sandi, I too have this question. I am functional and my symptoms are much improved on some days. Other days I have hours where I am really uncomfortable. I sometimes wonder as I heal if my tolerance for discomfort is reduced. That is why it is helpful for me to look back over old posts and force myself also to "rate" each day so I can prove to myself, numerically that I am improving.
 
It seems from reading back through old posts that one should not be terribly uncomfortable for more than a day or two without checking with Dr. B and looking closely at diet and other exposures. As a select group of posters, we have had a range of flares in the past two weeks: Omega-rich dairy, unprotected sex, dietary "cheats"-really just eating from later lists. There seem to be so many things that can trigger more pain. Hopefully the further into treament, the smoother things go....

What I became to believe about this treatment is that progress and effectiveness should be accessed on about 6 months intervals not day by day, month by month, etc. It is premature for you Mimi to think one way or another when it comes to your question of pain level vs tolerance. Of course, we are all different and you may have signs one way or another, but the whole picture will just start shifting sometimes not much often than about every 6 months.
I was at at stand still for long time, and then felt a huge step forward. Had I believe that things are not working anywhere before my final progress, that would be a mistake. So, patience will get us far, impatience will make things complicated. I am not saying that you are inpatient Mimi, I am taking to myself and writing it for everyone (including myself) benefit.
