Sensitivity around periods

Hello All

Since I am new to all of this I just wondered if it was common to get increased bladder sensitivity just before and during one's period each month?

I have noticed this as a pattern for me. I get pain inbetween but it is worse during these times in the month.

If it is commonplace, does it ease with time?

Thank you all

Poppy

Yes, many people notice that thier bladder is more sensitive at different times of the month.  I have noticed it myself and have read similar comments on the boards.  If you haven't read Dr. Brizman's dissertation, I highly recommend it.  The book really helps piece things together.

struggle with this. My bladder always gets worse the week before my period, and a couple days into it. Then I have a few good days... then is starts all over again. Matia has told me that the hormones really get in the way of treatment (in a sense they make pain worse for a lot of people and can cause confusion, but part of getting into balance)
And she has told me yes, it does get better with time. Just like people who had terrible pain with their periods, or should I say PMS. Then when their bodies start to balance, they have periods with no pain as far as cramps and things like that. It has been one of the biggest improvements for me. I have only VERY slight cramps and pressure the first day of my period. I used to have to stay home from work and take strong pain meds around the clock the first 3 days of my period.
So hang in there!

Hi Poppy, I have been in treatment for just over two years. Feeling better/good for over a year now. I started my period at age 10 and had horrible pain. At 16 I was put on birth control to help with cramps. Forward 20+ years = IC. Since starting treatment with Matia I noticed in the beginning that my periods were the best time for me. Not usual by IC standards, as with most it's the opposite. Now after being in treatment my periods always surprise me. Inconvenient but preferred. Hormones play a big roll in pain/discomfort. Is takes time but if you follow Matia's advice all will be well. She is truly a miracle worker. Tammy

Yes... very common, has a lot to do with hormones.  Also, keep in mind that over time your bladder may change in how it is during period/cycle, but don't freak out, it happens.  Like for me, it started out I was always my best just before & first days of my period.  I treasured those days b/c those were my only "days off."  Then a year into treatment I started getting bladder pain even during my period and I was mad & scared b/c now I had no reprieve, and why was this happening?  But it's all part of the process, hormones shifting, blah blah blah.  Besides which my bladder was much better at that point than it was at the start of treatment when I had pain-free period days.  And then in time, my bladder got strong enough that it wasn't nearly so much an issue.
