Hi everyone,
I was just wondering how your transition and reactions to foods on List 2 was. I was excited that i could go to List 2, but i've had some bad days due to my period, then had a flu and i haven't yet experimented. I've been still eating List 1 items that i got so used to. Eggs, broccoli/red cabbage or cauliflower, with a slice of bread for breakfast. For lunch: some meatballs (they taste awful without any seasoning to take away the heaviness) :(, rice and veggies. Similar for dinner.
I am excited to be able to eat more veggies, but my real excitement was when Matia said i can try Pamela's pancake mix to make some cookies. However, after two days of trying, i reacted to it and sadly i had to give them up. Should i try again in a few weeks or give it up? Now, i am a little down and not even that eager to try other veggies.I guess trying some garlic or garlic powder can liven up the food, along with new veggies.
I never had a sweet tooth, i always preferred salty and spicy food. But now i crave them like crazy! Do you have any ideas for cookie-like cheats? Maybe i can take spelt/kamut bread, crumble it, mix with eggs and oven bake them again to make them look like cookies :) I think i sound pretty crazy.
Thanks for your comments.
Can you have butter?
If so, I would cook your veggies in them, and or put it on your rice for sure. Also, when I was on list 1-2 I used fattier meats. Don't get lean beef, get a one that is has more fat. To this day (tho I do now use leaner meats most the time, as I get fats from avacadoes/nuts now) I still make just a juicy hamburger with salt and pepper, cooked in olive oil.
I did not have anything like Pamela's in cookies till farther down the line, but I did use it on occasion for making biscuits. Those were a real treat! If I were you, I would wait on it for awhile. Unless you it was the sweetener (agave?) you used to make the cookies. YOu could be reacting to that. I would stick to just making biscuits out of the pamela's if Matia's given you the ok, on occasion (I used butter in the recipe) for a treat. Remember to always eat some protein before you eat anything like that.
I would focus on trying to make a really good cut of beef, and a big batch of grilled broccoli (recipe in recipes on this site, VERY tasty) when you are really craving sugar.
Pamela's Pancake Mix
Hi Hopeful, thank you for your reply. Yes, i am ok with butter, and I do use it along with olive oil to make the veggies more tasty. I buy organic ground beef that's grass fed (not corn fed). I think grass-fed meat smells and tastes heavier. I wonder if it's my heightened senses, that makes it more intolerable.
When i baked with Pamela's mix, i only added salt. I realized later that it has salt in it so maybe it was the extra salt that bothered me. I started enjoying veggies for the first time in my life, but i feel like i have no comfort food.
I remember when I first got greenlighted for List 2
I remember when I first got greenlighted for List 2, I was ecstatic. Cheese was like the biggest luxury, the ICAMA equivalent of chocolate cake. But it was very short-lived b/c I couldn't tell what I was reacting to... I would try a food multiple times and still wasn't sure. I didn't get far and ended up taking myself back to List 1, which was almost worse than Matia ordering me back onto it, b/c I was "voluntarily" giving up my precious List 2 foods, but it was too early in treatment, my pain was all over the place, and it was infuriating trying to figure out if my pain went up b/c of some provolone cheese or just b/c it would randomly spike at different intervals.
In the early days I experimented a lot with cookie-like treats, as sweet over salty is always my preference, but I didn't really come up with much. I tried using Pamela's mix to make cookies just without the agave or choc chips/fruit but it didn't have taste to me. My best bet was biscuits, as already suggested -- lots of butter in them and I'd add more on top. ;-) I know this is salty but try the recipes for kale chips or something like that, something you can crunch on. As soon as you can have blueberries, try Pamela's mix for blueberry muffins ... so yummy, and you can bake a bunch and freeze them - still taste like new after.
I wish I had more for you...I'll keep thinking.
List 2
Matia told me I could start adding in foods one at a time from list 2 and I was so happy but my bladder has been horrible since yesterday and the flare is just not abating attall. I had added in a couple of foods but could not determine if these were the cause either so had already decided I had to exclude them just in case. Matia has agreed with this and thinks that may be it is too early in treatment to try new foods. I feel so deflated and dejected not just because my pain levels are back up and I'm feeling so uncomfortable but because I was so looking forward to introducing new veggies.
I think I'm a long way off from trying cookies etc, just have to be patient. At the moment all I want is the pain levels to drop down again!
