Broccoli and Cabbage

Forums:

I have read on the forum how important it is to eat raw veggies.  I grill and dehyrate a lot of my veggies but I just bought a food processor and I started doing Raw broccoli, green cabbage and red cabbage and then drinking about six ounces for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I have stared noticing my bladder gets more upset and I have to urinate more frequently and i there is more bloating. Does anyone have a problem with cabbages or broccoli? Do you think it could be because it is raw?  I am really confused.  I know I feel best when I just eat meat and yellow squash but I feel like i should be eating the brocoli for vitamins.

thanks,

xoxo

I think because it is raw. I believe I read somewhere here that Dr. B wants us took cook our veggies, or at least eat 50% cooked veggies and 50% raw veggies.

Thanks guys for replying so fast. Ok that is what I was thinking. :) I thought I felt better when they were cooked but I thought I may be imagining things. haha. Do you think you still get a lot of nurtrients when you grill them?  What about steaming them? Is that better? Deir, I bought the excailbur nine tray and I dehydrate yellow squash and zuccinni. I also make elk jerky. It is amazing for snacking on during the day when you are in your car running errands or working :)  Also i saw that you cut out the carbs, I was wondering if that could have been making you not feel well. I don't do well with them. How are you feeling now? are you noticing a difference?

Hi,
I would make sure you ask Matia about juicing the veggies if you have not. Because unless she has given you the go ahead, I have heard she does NOT want us juicing veggies. I could be wrong though in your case, just make sure you ask her if you haven't.
I try and eat a lot of raw spinach, avacado and carrot. Most everything else I cook somewhat. Usually steam or roast, which I know is not as good. But I can NOT tolerate raw broccoli. Yikes....
Happy veggie eating to us all!

Hopeful, you can tolerate steamed or cooked broccoli though?? I am using a food processor which does not juice them just blends them up so  I can drink them raw and get it over with.  :)  But I do think the raw broccoli is getting me for sure. I wonder if dehyrating things keeps the nutrients more? I cannot imagine it does because it still heats them up to high a temp. :) I think I am going back to grilling for a bit

here is the link I read about cooking veggies:

Lately the issue of veggies has been coming up for a lot of people in treatment lately so, I thought I would post on the subject.
In Chinese medicine, texts suggest that vegetables be eaten cooked for those with digestive weakness, or, AKA, Spleen Qi deficiency. And, in some cases, I also make that recommendation, where it seems applicable. In those cases, it is more likely that the person has so much pain and bloating in their abdomen that eating raw veggies would create more gasses and therefor create more pain and pressure on the bladder.
However, not all patients start at that point and may eat raw veggies from the beginning. Regardless of this beginning, ultimately, I think the end goal for general good health should be focused on raw veggies with some cooked veggies mixed in. A 50/50 split is OK too, but 2/3 raw 1/3 cooked would be even better.
And, when you have your salads, which, you should be having at least one of per day-make it a big one. Use not only leaf lettuce, chop up veggies such as cabbage, carrots, tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, spinach, kale, etc.... Later, use lemon and olive oil and seasonings-and you have a great part of a more complete meal with lots of vitamins and minerals. This is a great way to give your family nutrition, and it helps with bowel movements as well.
Some people argue that it takes too much time to do this, but, honestly, it only takes 10 minutes, it is so much easier than the rest of your cooking, and you can't burn it!
So, when ever you can incorporate this part of your meal plan, try it. It will be a big part of keeping you healthy:)

I think broccoli and cabbage are hard to digest, even cooked.  I get bloating and gas from them.  My husband even gets bloating and gas from broccoli, and he doesn't have health issues.  I think anyone who has problems digesting foods should cook their vegetables.

I agree, broccoli and specially cabbage are known for creating gas and bloating.

Ok I am glad that others are feeling this a little bit and not just me. I was starting to think I am the only one that gets affected by these veggies. Thank you for the helpful information and websites.  I am going to cook them until Matia says to try them raw.  :)
