Difference between remission and keeping on top of it?

Dear all,

I have a query. When I was in remission, I ate and drank everything I wanted, used all kinds of body broducts, etc. (I did not know that I had IC). I was ok with this for years and years. When Matia gets people better, do they go into remission in this manner or is this a different process? I know that she says that to stay asymptomatic, we need to keep on top of the disease through diet, water, products, etc.. I am wondering why I was able to not even know that I had IC and no relapse throughout that time?

You were probably young and had a healthier immune system at that time and it kept your body in enough balance to not have any symptoms. I look at IC the same way I look at weightloss, high BP, diabeties etc. If you suffer from theses things you can get rid of them by modifying what you do in your life. Like what you eat and if you exercise etc. If I lost weight and started to eat right and exercise I could lower my BP, lose wight and get rid of my diabeties. I would then know that I had to continue doing what I was doing because over time these things would probably come back. It could take a few years but if I went back to my old way of living I would most likely end up sick again.
