So confused...

I wanted to share how this past week has went for me because it left me very confused.....

All of last week 1-7-1/10, I stuck to a very clean diet which lead to having barely any symptoms on Friday 1/11. My Fiance and I left for Chicago (a 4 +hour trip) by car Friday morning. During the car ride, I started to feel my bladder pain a little. When we arrive to Chicago, we checked into our hotel and went to venture out. I decided that I was going to indulge Friday night and see how I felt Saturday morning, SO I am going to be completley honest on what I ate/drank there. Friday, we went to Genos Pizzeria and had deep dish pizza and a few beers. After that we went to the cheesecake factory where I had a massive piece of white chocolate, caramel cheesecake and a pomegrante mojito. Symptoms are 100% gone at this point. We then hit up Howl at the Moon, a very cool dualing piano bar when I drank more beer. Needless to say we were both a litle tipsy as we walked back towards our hotel, but not before we stopped at a pub and I had 1/2 a cheeseburger and fries. Went to bed, woke up Saturday morning and felt AMAZING. No pain whatsoever. I was so happy. Saturday we had sushi for lunch, I had a glass of Merlot with that. We went out to dinner at Lowrys which is known for prime rib. I had prime rib, mashed potatoes, creamstyle corn, and salad (with dressing), and beer. Went to another piano bar later that night and drank there as well. Went to bed, woke up Sunday, felt AMAZING! WTH?? Went out to lunch at a Mexican place, had enchillada, taco and tamale with a beer. Stopped into Garretts Popcorn and had some caramel corn with alomonds. Got in car to drive home. No pain at all!! Stopped at starbucks on way home and ordered a grande caramel latte. By the time we got home, I started to feel the bladder pain again. I was so confused as I was in NO pain whatsoever all weekend. This pain was very minimal though. We stopped at got some spicy wings on way home and ate those for dinner. Now before I go any further, I know we ate HORRIBLY this weekend which we normally do not. We do indulge when we travel though! Through the week we cook at home and watch what we eat. Needless to say, Sunday night I woke up in so much pain that it forced me to the bathroom and I slept in a hot bath from 4am-7am in which I had to get up and get ready for work. Monday I was so determined to get this under control that we went to the store and made a pack to only eat nonprocessed foods for 2 whole weeks and reaccess my symptoms. Its so hard for me to believe its diet because when I eat bad or drink a few beers, my pain goes away! Butttttttt...Maybe its something in particular? The coffee from starbucks? I never gave up my coffee this whole time. As of Monday, I have been caffeine free, and have only ate chicken, corn, brocolli, filet, sweet potatoes, spinach, panko bread crumbs, butter, evian water, garlic, almonds, peanuts, whole wheat pasta, parmesean cheese and feta cheese and my symptoms were gone within 24 hours. Therefore Tuesday, Wed, and today I have had NO pain at all.

I am in shock but wondering if anyone has ever experienced something like this before? How long should I continue this diet to let bladder calm down, before I introduce new foods one by one?

I don't really have an answer to this but just wanted to chime in and say I've experienced the same thing.
Back last year before I went to see Dr B, I was having INTENSE pressure in my bladder, I couldn't move from bed for about an hour or so after I went to pee. It was really horrible. In March, I jumped onto a place and flew to the U.S for my appointment... As soon as I landed overseas, my bladder symptoms went from severely uncomfortable, to almost non existant. I ate mexican, burgers, drank cocktails and basically did everything I wasn't meant to do. Yet still - my bladder felt amazing. I kind of felt stupid at my appointment with Dr B, and began wondering why I was even there.. did I even have IC? After 1 week, I flew back to Australia.. within hours of landing - BANG - bladder symptoms kicked in once again. Severe pressure! It's so weird.. The only thing I can put this down to is stress???

Natalie,

That is what my Fiance thinks triggers my flares. He said everytime we travel and you just relax and enjoy yourself you are fine! Its so odd! :(

Birth Control Pills cause IC? Can someone explain this to me? I have been taking birth control pills for several years. The only year I did not take them is when I was pregnant and now to think of it I had NO symptoms this entire year. How does Birth Control pills cause or make IC worse?

Krystal,
Do a search on this site for "Birth Control" and "hormones" and read her blog posts. You will find a lot of information. It is also in her dissertation which I recommend if you are considering working with her. If I were you I would RUN to see Dr. Brizman. Her holistic, whole-body rebalancing treatment is a drop in the bucket cost-wise, compared to the costs of being on pain/symptom managment for IC with western drugs when you consider that medical dr.s only treat the symptoms and have no cure for this disease.

If we don't excel at health, the only other option is disease.

I have had similar experiences in the past. Feeling great while eating 'bad' things. I don't think it is going on holidays and being relaxed, i think it is eating food that is 'feeding' the yeast / bacteria, that is settling the symptoms for a little while, while the yeast is happy and being fed (after being starved!). In my case, after a holiday with lots of sugar and some alcohol, and feeling not too bad, i had a really bad flare that lasted almost a month when i got home.
Just my thoughts on this!
Haven't cheated since starting treatment last october, i know better now :-)

I agree with you 100%. That is exactly what I was thinking! Thanks for your response!
