Forums:
Hi everyone. My family will be moving across the country in the next few weeks, and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for going on a road trip with IC. I'll be on the road for 4 days. I'm almost 18 months into treatment and have been on shorter road trips, but nothing as long or as stressful as this one (moving is always stressful.). Does anyone spend a lot of time in the car? Any cushion recommendations or other tips for travelling or living out of hotel rooms? Thanks!
Hey Tinkerbell,
Hey Tinkerbell,
It's nice to hear from you on the board. I think you and I came to this forum together around the same time, and I noticed you haven't posted very much lately. I hope you're doing well.
I've done a couple road trips since since I've gotten IC. I have no suggestions for the car, unfortunately, but I've learned a few things about living out of hotels. Firstly, ask the hotel in advance if they can provide a mini fridge for you in your room, often times they have several available for guests. If there's already a mini bar, but ask them in advance to empty it. That way you can store your probiotics and food in there. Also bring a cooler with you with several ice packs for your meals and meds. I also bring apples, carrots, blueberry or zucchini muffins, almonds and cashews with me on trips. They don't necessary need to be refridgerated and are great snacks. I've found hotel breakfasts tricky, but most restaurants can make you a plain omelette with veggies or, at the very least a hard boiled egg. I also bring my own bread when travelling and most restaurants are perfectly fine toasting it for me.
If worst comes to worst and you ABSOLUTELY have no fridge in your room to put your probiotics, ask the hotel restaurant if you can store your meds in their fridge. I've done that too.
Best of luck with the road trip --- Moving is stressful!
Thank you so much for the
Thank you so much for the ideas! I hadn't even thought of carrots or nuts for car snacks! I will definitely do that! Pretty sure all of our hotel rooms have refrigerators, so I'll be good there. Yes, I have been away from the forum for a little while, but I'm doing pretty well. Continuing to improve all the time! :)
If anyone has any ideas on how to lessen the effects due to vibrations from the car, I'd love to hear! I was just planning to sit on a cheap pillow from Target or Wal Mart, but if anyone has any other cushion recommendations, I'd love to hear them!! I'm mostly worried about how the car vibrations will affect my bladder.
I have been on 4-hour trips
I have been on 4-hour trips recently (4.5 months into treatment). It was not as bad as I thought. If it does get uncomfy, maybe consider taking more breaks or shortening your drive times per/day?
If we don't excel at health, the only other option is disease.
