Prenatal Vitamins

Ok so I have a quick question. I know part of the diet is avoiding supplements but I am pregnant and am taking prenatal vitamins. I feel like its adding to my issues but really don't know if there's a way around it. Don't all pregnant women have to take prenatals? Obviously I want what's best for the baby even if it means suffering for 9-11 more weeks, but was wondering if anyone had any knowledge or insight to this.

Hello Lindsey!  I was on prenatal vitamins when I first went to see Dr. B. We were trying to get pregnant, but too was having infertility issues, and thinking of starting infertility treatment. I know now my body is not ready for pregnancy. Anyway Dr. B said prenatals could be contributing to my pain. She said that if I were to get pregnant much further into treatment she would be able give me advice on what to take other than prenatals, not there yet so don't know if it is the same for everyone or like everything else individualized for each persons needs. So I guess through all that rambling I would say yes the prenatals could be contributing to some of your issues. Sorry, you are having to deal with this while pregnant. Hope you get some relief soon! I don't know if you were to call the office if they could give you some advice on this?

Lyndsay- I would be trying to eat a lot of diet-friendly folate rich foods. I thinnk these are the leafy greeens like Kale etc.Look up folate containing vegetables. Of course- I might be totally wrong because with IC- all bets are off!! LOL

For what it is worth, I couldn't take prenatal vitiamins for probably 6 months of my last pg because I was so sick.

I had IC when i was pregnant with my third child. My doctor knew of my IC , and i didn't want to take prenatal vits as read a few places that the B  vitamins can cause a flare. (This  was before i was in treatment with Matia)
My doctor gave me samples from her  office of a iron  and folic acid supplement .She felt this was all that was needful.(i  ate well what i could as i was on the medical diet for ic at that point). It was combined the vitamin. It never seemed to bother me.
I had bladder discomfort/ pain for about the first 4 mos of the pregnancy and then it settled down quite a lot. I  was  great  until post partum 6  weeks  and then boom the discomfort came back. I had a healthy baby girl who is now 5 .
Good luck with your pregnancy -i hope your discomfort settles.

Thanks Jeannie. I see you've been a member since 2009, are you still in treatment with Dr Brizman? Are you healed from the bladder stuff?
