Hi all
A recent post made me think those that suffer from this can reduce this effect. I am only 2 weeks into treatment and unfortunately have not been able to wean myself off of magnesium supplements yet for my mild constipation. I suppose I might try soon but I have bladder pain if I strain too much.
My tricks for a pain free bladder after BM are as follows.
Drink a VERY warm 10 ounce glass of spring water right when I wake up. Drink the whole thing at once. Trying to make sure I have a least an hour+ at home in the morning before I have to leave the house. I am still taking one 400mg of magnesium at night (Dr. B ok with this).
Bring a stool into bathroom so that you can relax your tailbone towards the back of the toilette with legs supported and knees higher than hips. This moves the lower bowel into the right position for elimination. Even Dr. Oz has had this on his show with great graphics! This simulates the natural squatting pose used in other cultures for BMs. There are also special potty stools you can buy. I just use a foot stool.
I try not to go until I am really ready. The water helps. Warm is MUCh better than room temp. I try not to use ANY pushing muscles. We are not supposed to do this AT all (Not just bladder pain sufferers!!). I want to teach my daughters not to strain/push either. This just messes with the proper tone in the pelvic floor. (See Katy Boman's work at her website www.alignedandwell.com) and as we know the strain and activation of these muscles aggrivates the bladder!
Hope that helps someone!!
Hi, I have had constipation
Hi, I have had constipation for years and it hasn't gotten a ton better in treatment. Depends on the herbs I am on. Some are better than others in this area. I've been doing crazy yoga poses on the toilet (said jokingly) for years and i have found the squatting really helpful. I'm exaggerating, but my tub is across from my toilet so I always put my feet up on there when I go. It's quite funny. The warm water trick is a great Ayurvedic tradition. I encourage anyone, even regular people, do drink this first thing. It really helps the cleansing and elimination process! That said, any warm drink, even spring water, causes me burning. Also, does anyone notice incredible burning immediately following a BM? Mine lasts about an our and Dr. B says that is indicative of the bacterial overgrowth going on. It's awful because while it feels sooooo good to finally eliminate, I dread the hour following. Doesn't help the whole situation as it creates some anxiety plus I need to be really relaxed and not needing to be out the door or on any schedule. Hence my BMs are almost always at night when the day is done and I have no place to be. Oy vey! Thanks for the post. PS-magnesium causes me incredible flaring, consider yourself lucky you can tolerate it as I wish I could when things get backed up.
