Oy. My favorite subject. Bifido. For the past 6 days, right after I eat, my small intestine goes into horrible pain. One big, solid cramp. It can last for several hours. She added in a little goldenseal today because she said the small intestine is moving a lot of bad guys out (not her words) and needs help.
Just wondering if anyone has had this horrible symptom? Now I have much more sympathy for IBS sufferers that hurt after they eat. It is really, really uncomfortable.

i went through something like this a while back. I had intense intestinal cramping for about a week, and then it just disappeared. My body was just getting rid of the bad stuff like you described. Hang in there!

Thanks Lisa Ann! The tiny bit of Goldenseal she is giving me is like a miracle. It is kind of creepy, yet amazing that a. we have all of these toxins inside us, and b. our body can move them out!

I had a similar experience with bifido and more so with digest a lac. I would get lots of gas and pain.
Dr. B. would decrease dose and eventually build me back up again when I could tolerate more. I know take 1 and 1/2 bifido - 4x/day and have taken up to 4 digest a lac/day with no problem. It took a long time to build up to that.
I always try to move through the discomfort and hold on - but you know when you need to pull back. Listen to yourself and it will eventually pass.

Thanks Breis. Dr. B added in 1/4 Goldenseal. I used to take my dose after my meal (kind of superstitious because I had such pain with my dose the first week of treatment, so I kept up with the dose-after-meal). But with the Goldenseal I have been taking my dose before I eat, and I can't believe how different I feel. It is like the goldeseal was waiting there for the bad guys to come out with the food, and just broke up all of the gas trapped in my intestines. Burping and gas a bit, but almost complete relief from that horrible wrenching gut pain! I just don't think I can stay on Goldenseal for long, so we'll see. Glad you are tolerating the probiotics so well!!

So glad the goldenseal is helping. Why wouldn't you be able to stay on it for long? Those cramps are AWFUL. I haven't tried the bifido yet, but serious intestinal cramping was my main symptoms for about two years before I even knew what IC was.
Sometimes I would be in so much pain I thought I was dying... so, I can empathize! Recently I"ll just get cramps every now and then, sharp piercing pains, and I just have to stay still until they pass. There is really nothing like that pain though... awful. Thank god for the Goldenseal huh?
I hope it just keeps getting better!

Today is my 6 month anniversay in treatment. I may post on that today, but both my daughters have the stomach flu so that is my full-time job right now.
Goldenseal is not often used in my particular protocol. Dr. B says it is the opposite of they way she normally treats me. But I am on 1/4 cap, and she said that is a small dose so I can stay on it for a while. She said for me, if I start to feel fatigue or nausea when I take Goldenseal, then I will probably need to stop. Right now it is killing a LOT of bad guys in my gut!!

Just a question, did you all use magnesium before starting treatment? Did you ask Dr. B if you could take this, or did she suggest it? I still deal with constipation, BM every third day or so, feel so bloated, reflux, indigestion. I know eventually this should smooth out, but when?! Just uncomfortable! Ugh!!!
