Well, after a long and painful dependency on coffee, I broke free (almost). I consume may be a cup a week, and sometimes it feels good, sometimes it tastes awful. I did it slowly, after numerous attempts to quit.
Two weeks almost coffee free. Logically, I should stay the course at this point.
Hi Blondy,
Hi Blondy,
Not to diminish your accomplishment but did Dr. Matia say you had to do this? My understanding, depending on where you are in treatment, a couple cups of coffee a day isn't a bad thing. I gave it up for a time, hoping it would help with my anxiety issues. (it took alot of work to quit) I found out that it made no difference and just deprived me of one more thing.
Blondy and Denise,
Blondy and Denise,
It's really interesting for me because I didn't drink coffee before IC and now I do. And if you remember well, I had a really hard time with extreme anxiety and insomnia when I began with it last November/December. I tried decaf coffee to give me something different than spring water to drink as I read some women had success with it - but I didn't have any luck. While out in LA for my appointment I took a risk and tried some French roast caff. coffee WITH 1/2 and 1/2 and did fine. I've been drinking it as my treat everyday since. I've had no problems with anxiety or insomnia. In fact , coffee has always made me tired, eventually - usually about 1-2 hours after drinking it. So I actually find I sleep much better.
Blondy, how has it helped you quitting coffee?
Sue
Blondy,
Blondy,
I forgot to congratulate you on your victory!!!! Coffee is a hard one to give up considering how ingrained in our culture it is ( a Starbucks on every corner, etc...) . I was so interested in why you gave it up that I didn't remember to give you credit for doing such a big thing!

I had pain for about 2-3 hrs every time I had coffee. I got it in the middle of the night to use bathroom every time I had coffee during the day, even one cup. The days I didn't have coffee, I didn't have to use bathroom mid-night. I know Matia says it is okay, but I didn't find a brend that didn't cause those reactions. There was one at Starbucks that seemed to be okay, but it was discountinued. I tried a lot of others, but they didn't work.

Congrats Blondy!
Congrats Blondy!
I dont want to muddy the waters on your progress, (Congrats, by the way!)
but during my IC research I have often looked at the Selective Carbohydrate Diet (SCD Diet) because this is a popular diet for those with bowel issues like IBS, UC, and SIBO (which many of us IC'ers have to some degree). I had been meaning to run this coffee company by Dr. Brizman. They have gone through extensive research to find a bean producer and process that uses low mycotoxins which can bother the digestive system (mycotoxins are found in many grains, especiall un-sprouted grains). You can read up on the other good aspects of this company. It is VERY different than any standard bean you may have tried....
Anywoo.... The Irritable Bowel Disease "community" really likes this product. I know you like to do some research on things so I thought you might find it interesting. I am going to run it by Dr. Brizman.

OMG. PLEASE TELL ME HOW YOU
OMG. PLEASE TELL ME HOW YOU DID THIS, step by step. I love coffee, but I want to give it up, because frankly, I hate feeling addicted to it. I'm about to graduate (don't get too excited for me, i have to finish the med school pre-requirements). How long did it take for you to not be tired?
YES! Congrats! I love your
