For me it completely varies
For me it completely varies day-to-day. On a good day, I might go about 5 times in 12 hours, but on the worst days I could go up to 12 times.
when my bladder is relatively
when my bladder is relatively calm about once every hour and a half- two hours. When im in a flare every fifteen minutes to half an hour. frequency and urgency my main symptoms and a background urge that drives me half mad some days!
When I'm feeling good, about
When I'm feeling good, about every 1.5 hours.
When not, could be as frequent as every 15 minutes -- but usually 30-60 minutes.
Even when I'm doing well, I'm up during the night about every 1 - 1 1/2 hours. Dr. B. assures me that this will improve as I continue to heal.
She says she could target the nocturia more directly, but better in the long term to stay the course and focus on whole-system healing.

Someways every 15-30 minutes, but usually every hour. On my good days I can have periods of the day where I can hold it 2 hours before getting really uncfortable. Pretty much always have the background urge.

Hello Ranjit! First, I would
Hello Ranjit! First, I would stop eating banana there is a diet list on the top of this page click on the integrated approach tab and the diet is the third one down. I would start on list one. The office phone number is 310-231-3300. If you already sent in your initial new patient form the office will contact you once Dr. B has reviewed it. If you don't hear by next Monday you should probably call to check in. Also, removing as many chemicals you are using for cleaning your house and using on your body the better. Start drinking only spring water, this should continue to help if you were already seeing good changes from your initial diet change. Good luck, this is a long road, but well worth it!
hi cprince...thank u so much
hi cprince...thank u so much for ur help ...i will wait till monday and then call the office....the raw eating of vegetables and some fruits is helping in decreasing the burning in the bladder...i m so scared abt the whole thing....my life has totally changed....ONCE AGAIN THANK U SO MUCH...
hi, cprince...i read the diet
hi, cprince...i read the diet section in integrated approach...but how to eat the veggies , raw or steamed, and abt meat wt should be the reciepe to cook or just marinate with garlic and salt and bake or steam it please help me....?
Welcome Ranjit!
Welcome Ranjit!
I lightly steamed my veggies as the raw was tough to digest for me at first but maybe that is okay for you- try it.I need the roughage of the raw veggies now personally.
I had a bamboo steamer that did this in- steam the veggies like squash and zuchinni and cabbage, broccoli. I was able to eat raw lettuces with no problems and now most all of my veggies are raw.
Meat- I cooked it plainly- either in butter or pure olive oil ( NOT extra virgin olive oil) I tolerated salt at first and then later garlic powder not raw garlic and pepper later.
You can broil meat or cook it in the pan. Grilling is probably not a good idea. You can bake a whole chicken or use a crock pot or clay pot for cooking. I am not an imaginative cook so I am not too versed in details.
You can add fruits back later after being approved by Matia -berries are especially good for us and the bladder. Right now the sugars of the fruits are not good for us and someof the vitamin content while healthy can be flare inducing and right now you want to minimize the inflammation going on. Bananas are high in potassium and potassium can cause flares. Bananas are one of the last foods to add back, Avoid coconut right now too cause that can be a VERY Big flare causer and well as vitamin E which is alot of lotions and soaps.
If you have any other questions let me know. Glad yo found us this is a legit healing path. I have come a long way and I am doing much much better and my body was WAAAAAY sick and in alot of pain. You can get well again! Just do your best and the folks here can help you figure out how to get the proticol down to a quick natural science that becomes automatic. IT is a tried and true method and it must be adhered to very strictly. It is not for everyone but MAtia knows she is talking about!
Anyways. Hope this helps!
THANK YOU SO MUCH , HONEYBEE.

I am a brand new member here
I am a brand new member here but I've been poking around the site since yesterday morning. Up to this point I have not been tracking how many times I go. In fact, I have avoided this up to this point. May daytime results tell me that I'm going about once an hour to 1.5 hours.
I've been taking oxybutynin for about 3 weeks, I am not IC diagnosed, only about 6-7 weeks since my frequency/urgency began. I have seen some improvement on the oxybutynin but I still find myself going all of the time, just not feeling like I need to go every 15 minutes anymore. On bad days I still do tend to feel the constant need to go though.
Im not sure if any of you have tried rooibos tea? I find it quite soothing and it seems to really make me feel somewhat "normal". Chamomile gives a similar feeling. I can't drink plain, but I limit sugar to a teaspoon (roughly) and a dash of cream to make the tea more mild. Ive been tinkering with my triggers though and the cream & sugar do not appear to have negative effects for me.
Hi Rmags!
Hi Rmags!
You will learn a lot from this site! If you are considering working with Dr. Brizman you will want to review the diet protocol. She uses specific herbs and probiotics carefully taylored to your specific needs.
I recommend reading her dissertation on IC which you can find on Amazon or on the Bomamed.com website.
I decided to work with her when I had my symptoms for about 6 weeks. I was already seeing a urologist, and she and I suspected it by 6 weeks when I did not respond to antibiotics. If you look at the AUA guidelines for diagnosis, I believe it is having symptoms with the absense of a positive urine culture for 6 weeks.
There are certainly foods that trigger symptoms, but there is a bigger issue at hand here. If you have IC, then your gut is compromised. If your gut is compromised then you need to avoid certain things for a long time until your gut is healed. Those include ANY sugar, alcohol, fungal foods, and yeast. These foods are everywhere so best to review the diet and go from there. IC is a serious health imbalance and it takes a lot of work to repair it, but worth the journey. Dr. Brizman understands this condition like no other health practitioner. Read all of her blog posts and search this site and ask questions. If you think you have IC, I strongly encourage you to treat with her. She would probably not start you out drinking Rooibos or chamamile tea. These teas are stronger than you think (you will be surprised at the things that should be avoided while you heal a fragile gut!). So while sugar may not cause immediate symptoms, it is feeding the bad bacteria in your gut and perpetuating the imbalance there which in turn will give you more bladder symptoms. All of this is explained in her dissertation.
If you are taking vitamin supplements, NSAIDS or chemical birth control you will want to stop. Pain medications may help temporarily, but are not a long-term strategy for healing this imbalance in your body. All of this will be discussed at your first appointment. I hope you work with her. It was the best decision I could have made for this condition.
Feel free to ask more questions. Glad you found the site!
If we don't excel at health, the only other option is disease.
I read a post on here that
I read a post on here that someone has been able to drink coffee so I am surprised that an herbal tea would be so bad? At this point my symptoms are not severe, and I pray they do not become severe. not convinced its IC, but more testing must be done. Ive had 3 negative cultures over about 3 weeks, had ultrasounds and an exam from my gynecologist. Nothing is conclusive at this point. I do have a follow up appt with the urologist on the 28th, and have requested more tests.
I full and complete change in lifestyle is not something I find easy, and I know every person here has struggled with this same issue. I am young, married just about 1 year and food and wine are my passion. The thought that I may never be able to enjoy these things again brings me such dispair. I want to be better, but I can't wrap my head around a complete bland boring diet with nothing to drink but water.
The birth control thing is certainly not something that I find a difficult decision to make. I have no desire to become pregnant now or in the near future. I have too much I would like to do and an unplanned pregnancy is the last thing that I need to be worried about. I really don't know what is meant by chemical birth control? I have taken the same pill since I was 16 (kariva). What is classified as chemical?
As far as appointments go, I am on the other side of the country. Not sure how dr Brizman treats, but I can't be jet setting to see a Dr, just not in the cards for me!
We are 2 weeks from vacation with a group of friends to cekebrate our first anniversary, and I am just praying that I can get through it without having any really bad days. Really, really praying.
Rmags - if you decide to be
Rmags - if you decide to be treated by Dr.Brizman be assured the bland diet is not forever athough it is diffucult in the beginning. I was allowed tea after one month treatment and I tolerate green and black tea fine. Coffee does irritate me though.
You would only have to met with Dr. Brizman once for the initial visit, and then after that you have phone appointments every few weeks.
The birth control pill is considered chemical birth control and its apparently one of the worst and most contrubiting factors to IC. Condoms or natural family planning are both good options. I've used withdrawl method for many years and never had a probem with it, but I realize that option might not be right for everyone.
I wish I had gone to see Dr. Brizman four years ago when my symptoms first started. You will heal faster if you haven't had symptoms for long and they aren't severe. Please seriously consider getting yourself out to LA to see her. It is an invesment in your future health and family.
