Dear forum followers,

i have been struggling with bladder pain for 16 months now and am very frustrated. I just found this site and am curious about people's experiences. I also would love some insight on dr. Britzmans approach. I am happy to share my story. I really am trying right now to find the best diet and best approach to supplements. There are so many opinions out there..thank you to all for your help and insight. Blessings to all, what a wonderful site. It is such an isolating condition.

Hi Carey,

Welcome to the site - I just answered your vegan question but thought I'd try to give you a brief crashcourse on working with Dr. Brizman.  If you look at the Integrated Approach tab at the top of the page, it gives you a good initial understanding of what to expect while working with her.  She encourages those who are considering treatment to start following the diet and see if that helps with pain/sensation/frequency, etc.  She does not encourage using supplements without being in treatment as it is often the combination of supplements that makes them OK for IC, while taken individually or at the wrong time they can REALLY increase symptoms.

As I start to write this, I realize there is SO much to say!  If you'd like to email me directly, I will send you my # and I'd be happy to speak with you on the phone.  I've been working with Matia for a little over 2 years and have made huge progress.  Having healed from IC twice before on my own, I know it can be done, but I believe that this is the best treatment approach as it gives you the tools to get your body in balance and stay that way once you're there.

Feel free to contact me and I'm happy to share.  OH- and juicing may not be best right now, especially fruits, because of the high sugar content without any fiber to slow the sugar hitting your system can aggravate your bladder a lot.  Stick with eating whole veggies, skip the fruit if possible, and you'll likely feel better!  If you really need some fruit, eat it at the end of a balanced meal (meaning 1/2 veg, 1/4 starch, 1/4 protein (don't eat soy products, as they will cause discomfort)) and make it something low on the glycemic index like blueberries or grapfruit.
