Dear all,
I've just read MImi's post (which is excellent) but it made me realise that I am not really sure what the problem with white sugar is. I've read many articles on this topic and can see the logic of it being a health hazard BUT can anyone please explain what it is about white sugar in particular that is problematical? How do natural sources (carbs., bananas, fruit, extracted fruit sugars, Agave, honey, etc.) differ? Are brown, unrefined sugars (the various sorts of brown sugar available) also a problem? I have a big gap in my knowledge wrt this and would love to know what I am missing on this.
Hi Vin. Someone posted this
Hi Vin. Someone posted this video awhile ago (I think it was researchnerd). It does a really good job of explaining why sugar is so horrid. It doesn't mention IC, but it talks about all of the scientific reasoning behind sugar's harmful effects.

In case the link doesn't work, it's on YouTube and it's called "Sugar: The Bitter Truth"
Hi Vin!
Hi Vin!
Fructose in fruit has its own smart delivery system (fiber) so it does not dump all at once into blood stream. Brown and unrefined have the same deliterious effect on blood sugar, and gut microbes. Candida albicans likes sugar from sugar cane, dried cane juice, other similar names, as is a readily available food source. INsulin resistance and blood sugar issues from added sugar in processed foods is a huge public health issue. Maple sugar and agave dont have same effect on GUT MICROBES which is such a big issue for those of us recovering from auto-immune.

I recommend "Sugar: The Bitter Truth)" (over 4 million views on youtube). This is probably the best although it is a bit academic. Dr. Robert Lustig has written two books on this subject now.

Excerpt:
"As it turns out, sugar calories are deadly calories. Sugar causes heart attacks, obesity, Type 2 diabetes, cancer and dementia, and is the leading cause of liver failure in America.
The biggest culprit is sugar-sweetened beverages, including sodas, juices, sports drinks, teas and coffees. They are by far the single biggest source of sugar calories in our diet. In fact, more than 37 percent of our sugar calories come from soda. The average teenage boy consumes 34 teaspoons of sugar a day, or about 544 calories from sugar. Even more troubling, this isn't just putting kids at risk for heart attacks at some remote later date in their lives. It’s killing them before their 20th birthday.
This new research syncs with decades of data on how sugar causes insulin resistance, high triglycerides, lower HDL (good) cholesterol and dangerous small LDL (bad) cholesterol. It also triggers the inflammation we now know is at the root of heart disease."

Also Dr. B cautions agains honey for after tx because raw honey is highly antibacterial

Thank you SO much Tink and
Thank you SO much Tink and Mimi. Lots of reading (and watching) there to get my teeth into. I was trying to explain to my fourteen year old daughter and realised that I didn't know the mechanisms. Thanks so much.
