Hi Portia! How were you diagnosed with this? The symptoms sound very similar to so many different conditions, so who knows how many of us could possibly have this syndrome. Definitely have issues with back flow of at least my esophageal sphincter. Have been thinking of you and wondering how everything has been going?

I have to question too if you have had a "diagnosis" of this?

What are your symptoms?

Did you talk to Dr. Brizman about it? Having a GI tract that does not function well is a hallmark of IC. But did you just start to develop these symptoms? I just don't find Western categories of disease very helpful. Including IC. Dr. Brizman is addressing everything to restore normal bowel function. I would talk with her if you have not already. Ask her if self massage is ok for the large intestine and valve. Most all of us with IC have SIBO (Small intestine Bacterial overgrowth) so obviously bacteria from our large intestine is getting into our small intestine. This implies that our ileocecal valve is not working well for probably many of us, and she is trying to correct this as well. But I would talk with her and keep us posted.

If we don't excel at health, the only other option is disease.

Portia, since you have been in treatment for over 2 years, would you mind updating us on your progress? Do you think since you are so far into treatment that maybe you are progressing too fast with some of the foods you are eating and your body is not keeping up? For example, if you are eating on list 5, maybe go back to list 4 for a while? Or if on list 4, maybe back to list 3?

If we don't excel at health, the only other option is disease.

When I was little my mom use to take us to see a chiropractor / kinesologist (sp?) I would get frequent stomach pains when I ate etc and he would tell me it was because my illo... Valve was stuck open and he would rub it...it hurt so bad...but it always fixed it...at the time I was also an undiagnosed Celiac...and since I stopped eating gluten I don't have the valve problems anymore.

I actually supposedly may not HAVE an illeocecal valve...I had surgery to remove part of my small intestine and the doctors took it out.  I have mentioned this to Dr.B before and she did not think that it would impede my healing.  I'd like to know more though about if that's correct or not.
I have really great days sometimes though so I feel like if it was a huge impedement I would not be able to feel so good.
