Freaking Out

Forums:

I had a breast biopsy today and the radiologist all but said that I should prepare myself for the worst. They also aspirated a lymph node that was a little enlarged. I AM FREAKING out!  Freaked that I'm really sick and freaked about how this is going to affect my ic recovery. I started with Boaz at the end of August and I've been doing great! Has anybody been diagnosed with breast cancer during treatment? What did you do?  I can't believe this is happening to me. I know it's arrogant but I never thought this would be me.  I really could use some encouragement.

I don't have any great words of wisdom! Keep breathing and try to stay positive! I have had enlarged lymph nodes many times and worrisome lumps and discharge before treatment and during, but always came out ok! I hope this will be the same for you. You have many prayers and happy thoughts being sent your way! Please keep us posted! xxxx

I remember a patient from years ago who had cancer and IC. She was in her 20s. Matia brought her back to health. I wish I could remember her name, so you could search the forum, but don't worry. It is going to be okay. The Brizmans have seen it before.

Rachel I want to send you a big hug. LOTS of people have had wierd breast stuff happen before and during treatment for IC. I have a VERY strong feeling that this is benign and that the radiolotgist is in a way covering themselves and saying what they feel they have to say. SO MUCH OF breast cancer screening and testing leads women down a road that was unecessary because they A. did not have cancer, and B. had a form of slow growing cancer that would take a lifetime to manifest. All of the latest data is cautioning women about screening for this very reason. Now you are very stressed and you don't have any definative answers yet. Best to bring someone with you to your next appointment so you can ask questions and have a second set of ears. My friend just went through this and you get into tricky data/risk scenarios which very quickly you come to realize that action is almost the same as waiting to treat, and action carries its own risks. Nearly ALL breast cancers are very treatable these days. And the Brizmans could get you through. But I strongly suspect that this is a benign scenario. Please keep us posted !!

I had a lump 2 years before IC and the Head of Breast Cancer at my local HMO palpated it and was sure it was not cancerous and we followd up later with mamography and it was gone. I am wondering why they recommended biopsy? In other words what were the characteristics of this lump that prompted them to recommend biopsy and was it found by palpation or during mamography. In any case appologize if this is too personal you can always PM me if I can help in any way.

Please don't feel like your getting too personal. Apparently a solid mass right up against a calcification can be a warning sign that the mass is cancerous. At least that's what they told me. I also got the impression that unless it's fluid filled they want to biopsy everything. I've also discovered that they sample calcifications as well. I have several friends who mentioned they had that done. What they described was very different from the biopsy I got. My biopsy was five separate samples.
I ended up with steri strips over the small incision, a compression bandage and an ice pack for the rest of the day.

Oh... And they found it on my yearly mammogram. They called the next day to come back in and have another mammogram. In addition I had an ultrasound. After 3 days of mammograms I'm certain I must be glowing!  Yes... 3. After you have the biopsy they insert a titanium marker at the biopsy site so they known where they have been. Then, you have to go have another mammogram to make sure they can see the dang thing.

I think it is very very common to have benign lumps during treatment. I had one and Matia MADE me go check it out. It was nothing at all but they took photos and gave me a mamogram and some other lab work and it was all over just a fluctuating lump. The lump just went away all by itself. Even if it IS cancerous you are in incredible hands that can get your body back in balance and healthy again.
READ THAT LAST LINE AGAIN. You can either dissolve into despair and decide you are screwed or you can choose to react with whatever I will overcome this and be healthy. Seems like you are catching something early and you are already doing pretty well with the treatment. I think people hear the doctors words as stamps of authority when ultmately they are steeped in a tradition that does not know how to heal anything chronic.
The stress over fear of survival is really a major thing right? people hear CANCER and they think worst case scenario... or terrible trouble and complications for their IC but it that is not necessarily true. At all.You can reverse just about anything. We are getting our bodies healthy from the ground up. I was having a wretched emotional day the other day and a intuitive friend asked me if I was yet at a place in my growth that understood and trusted the events of my life to be that which happened for a reason and while I always thought it was a cliche to say that - there was an intrisically different tone to it this time- that went beyond the typical cliche or sarcastic feeling of "yeah I could a assign a meaning" for some reason that tatooed itself with solid knowing I KNEW it was true that these things happened the way they did for some purpose beyond my understanding and that there was also nothing to fear in this knowledge. I went from a tantrum of "THIS IS SOOO UNFAIR" to an instant understanding of how and why and what for...
Just to put it in persepctive... IC is clearly healable and doctors say it is not... Cancer is healable. But we don't know the facts yet. Breathe. The body is amazing.
