Forums:
So I have completed my first week of Dr. B's protocol. The herbs were really hard to get down in the beginning(because of the taste) but I have got used to them. I have been feeling pretty good as well. I just had a couple of little short flares but they went away really quick and were not that hard to handle. So... so far with the treatment everything has gone really well with how I feel physically.
The only thing that has been really hard is following the diet, I am on list 1. I have been getting intense cravings for sweets and junk food. I messed up 3 times this week. The first night I messed up, I had a chedder cheese stick. The second night I messed up I had a scoop of vanilla ice cream with a graham cracker. And the third night I messed up I had half a bag of BBQ ruffles chips. Ahhhhhhh how do I stop this intense cravings! I feel so bad because I want to get better and I feel if I keep giving into to these temptations they will make it take longer to recover.
I need advice, how do you not give into your cravings. What have you made for yourself in replacement of junk food to make you feel better. Any advice will help.
Thanks!
zuchinni muffins
Also has anyone made the zuchinni muffins with brown rice flour instead of spelt flour?
Brown Rice
I have made muffins with brown rice and they are not very good. Very bland! Spelt flour is much nicer.
Diet Struggles
Hello,
Man can I relate! It is so hard to stick to the protocol. The best thing I can suggest is empty your house of junk food. If you can. And if/when you cheat try to make it a healthy cheat. And as for chips if you eat plain, organic with just oil and sea salt.....its not so bad. My biggest issues is feeling deprived when we have family events and there's dessert, that's when I cheat. The only thing I can suggest is try to tell yourself that whatever it is thats there is not healthy.....its sweet poison. And let yourself have something in its place. Maybe something from another list like a piece of fruit or a piece of bread with almond butter. I've been doing this now for 2.5 years....only 4 months with Matia though and I know how hard it is.
When it comes to food, it
When it comes to food, it gets better as you go. I have less cravings as time goes on. If you start feeling better soon, that will be a real reward for 'being good' with food.
Although i will brag...I
Although i will brag...I have never cheated....I understand wanting to! * The only thing that has helped me is keeping enough of what I CAN eat around. Trader Joe's has olive oil potato chips and I try not to overdo them but they help when I am feeling sorry for myself. Also- I can tolerate coffee so every afternoon after I get my 18 month old down for a nap, I have a blessed cup of coffee and a few rice cakes with butter (Suzi's flat cakes are so much better than regular) and I really try to savor it. In the begining I would feel panicky about the diet sometimes but now it is easier although I still get bummed. Look, ther's no sense beating yorslef up about it just move onto the next day and try to make sure you aren't really hungry at any point.
You'll get better at it as time goes by and you may be able to move up the lists faster if you stick to the diet. That has not happened for me but it does for many people!
*Don't get mad at me for never cheating! I'm a good Irish Catholic girl!! LOL I make up for my discipline by crying extra.
coffee
Oh and I cannot wait to have coffee again, I have been craving it all day everyday. I have my second appointment with Dr. B next Wed so I really hope she will allow it. I'm going to ask if I could test it out.
Brown rice flour
I use brown rice flour all the time to make the muffins. I just add more salt to give them a little more flavor.
Thank you!
Thanks everyone for your advice, it really does help me. All of you are right, my problem is I still have junk food and temptations in my house, I do just need throw all of it out and by the organic potatoe chips and the rice cakes. And I need to make more stuff, because I am an eater. I love to eat, so as long as I have the good choices I will do ok.
Thanks again I don’t know what I would do without all your suggestions.
*Good job Deir! I used to be so strict about my diet in highschool but now that I am older it’s so hard to not give in but I will try my best!
Sticking to diet
Hi Calieve,
I am so glad to hear your first week has been good. Hope you have many good weeks through your treatment like this. As for the diet, once Matia told me, the stricter you are with diet, the faster you'll heal and also move up the lists. That has been my main motivator!!! I looked at the list 1 and simply decided i don't want to eat broccoli and cauliflower the rest of my life. And now strangely, i enjoy them and they are still part of my daily meals. You can do it. Believe in yourself. When you crave sugars and other things you can't have, associate an image in your head with something nasty. For instance, sugar, chinese food, carbs and sushi are few things Matia warns about even after full recovery. Because i have a weakness towards them, I took advice from an older patient who posted that she associated those with something nasty. Now, my apologies, i know it's nasty but i think of intestinal parasites when i think of sushi. It works i don't crave it anymore!!! I still crave sugar, especially chocolate once in a while, that means the bacteria in your body needs them. I tell myself that i don't want to loose it to them and ruin my future happiness for a few seconds of pleasure. Amazingly our palettes also change with the diet. Those things that once tasted good to us will not when you get used to eating healthier. You'll realize how artificial they are. At work, my coworkers eat fruit yogurts, colored candy, and all kind of junk food. It all seems so chemical to me now. I don't crave them anymore. When i first had avocados in the beginning of list 3, i was soo happy. ( cheese and avocado are on list 2 but i wasn't allowed to have them). So it's hard at first, till you get to list 2. Then 3 you feel so lucky. I've been allowed to experiment with list 3 and still i am heavily list 1 and 2 now, cause i am content with just avocados and now plain yogurt. yum.. Few things that you can make into treats are: bake thin sliced potatoes with sea salt and garlic powder and bake them. Always eat carbs with proteing or veggies though! Or rice cake with butter. Crumble cauliflower in to small pieces by hand, dip in egg, then pan cook them in butter. Make zucchini pancakes with zucchini, broccoli, potatoes and fry them. One thing i didn't do is cutting down altogether eating out. I allowed myself once a week dinner at a nice steak restaurant and have a nicely done steak, baked potatoe and steamed veggies. That gave me happiness and made me feel somehow still social. Best wishes, take it a day at a time.
Thanks
Great thanks for all the advice Selichan, I know I want to get better fast so I don't have to worry about the diet, so I just have to try and hold out until then. It sure is hard, everyone's advice really did help me tough. Since I posted this I am proud to say that I have not cheated. And I will try not to either in the future.
