I have been helped tremendously by the IC diet. I do wish that Dr. Brizman would include a basic approach to her herbal protocal on this site. I cannot afford to fly to Los Angeles right now to see her, but would love to attempt to futher treat myself with herbs. I have purchased a lot of them after reading several books by people who have cured themselves of this disease. I would love it if this site included some information about herbs. Is there any information or treatment protocol outlined in her dissertation?
Hi Me, The answer I am going
Hi Me, The answer I am going to give you sounds rehearsed, but it is not. The beauty of this treatment is that each one of us received a different herbal combination that it would be impossible for her to treat anyone effectively using a "general" combination. In fact, my understanding is that harm can be done with herbs in the wrong combination.
I, personally, have had my protocol changed many times within the same week, because my body was changing that quickly. I have been my own IC guide for some years and I could not even possibly begin to match Dr.B's herbal skill. The good news is that when you do finally get to see her..... the treatment really does work! My bladder is much better.
Good luck,
Katie

Me- I feel for you!
I just wanted to reiterate what Katie said- Dr B has changed my herbal protocal multiple times in ONE DAY! At times I have been amazed at the way things worked. I self treated many ailments in my life including serious stuff lik Infertility but unfrtunately IC is beyond me.
Thant's not to say you couldn't try things- of course that is your choice. I am absolutely sure I would if I hadn't gone to see Matia. (Before I was using cystoprotec and I think it was helping with symptoms. The important thing for me was that I heal the underlying causes but that supplement did help with symptomatic relief.) But to do her protocol yourself would be impossible. My younger sister also has IC and can't afford to go right now and she tried oil of oregano but started having serious die-off and that freaked her out so now she is sticking to the diet and saving her pennies.
I am sorry you can't afford to start treatment- that must be so hard. It is a shame that she can't do initial phone consults but that is a legal thing.
Hang in there. I wish I had enough money to help all the people who want to see Dr Brizman.

Herbs
It is not a good idea to try to treat yourself with herbs. If you can't afford to come and see Matia, then perhaps find another practitioner in your area who has the knowledge to guide you.
Me
Me, I agree wholeheartedly with what the ladies are saying. I tried unsussessfully for 2 years to get well with the guidance of natural doctors. They don't know personally about IC the way Matia does. Matia has had this illness and she's had many years of experience treating people with this illness. I tried every herb protocol under the sun, all kinds of diets and vitamins....I did not have much success.....lucky for me I did not make things worse. Now with Matia the guess work is done and she takes all the responsibility for what herbs I put in my body. The diet will help with symptoms....but diet alone is not enough. Save your money and go see Matia. I put it off for a year and I wish I had gone sooner.

Are you sure Matia had IC? I know she was sick in the past. For the first year of treatment, I listened to several hours of her supprt groups meetings. She never mentioned having overcome IC.
Let me know if she mentioned it to you. I would find it very interesting :o)

Yes, I asked her straight out at our first meeting. It meant the world to me to hear that she too had IC because it shows such a huge committment to this illness. Many once they are better don't want to be reminded of such a painful time in their lives, but she has dedicated her life to help all of us with IC get better.
herbal teas?
I had bought a lot of herbal teas to try that I had read about from some of the books of people who have cured themselves. I tried some, but I'm not sure if I should continue. Has anyone tried any of them or marshmallow root?
marshmellow root
I tried this. I did find it soothing (but only a little bit). However, its made a few people worse that I know. I'm a graduate student and I'm over 100,000 dollars in school debt. Essentially the cost of treatment for me has been nearly impossible. My stipend is not enough to live on, so I babysit to pay for treatment. It sucks, especially with being sick, taking 19 credits and working unpaid as a research assistant. Go into debt if you have to, because you have nothing if you don't have your health, and I feel much better. Though I have a ways to go. Lastly, I agree with everyone on here. Don't mess with herbs, I did this too and I saw a million accupuncturists and chiropractors etc. Its a waste of money and you'll just feel worse.
Are you a patient of Dr.
Are you a patient of Dr. Brizman's now?
I am pretty sure MMR tea made
I am pretty sure MMR tea made my frequency go up. Redbush tea was ok. I was also drinking chamomile and DrB tells me that is not good for my particular case- that's an example of how invaluable she is!!
yep
I am still--but I don't need to talk to her all that often, I've been with her approaching 3 and a half years.
