Anyone being treated for just urinary frequency?

Hello everyone,

I am a soon-to-be patient of Matia's. I am excited to start this treatment as I know in my heart this is where my healing will begin. I have a quick question I hope someone here might be able to answer. Is anyone being treated for just urinary frequency? If so, how is treatment going?

I am asking because I realize most people have pain with this disease. I never really had pain - even when I had UTI's I never had pain. I had some pressure a couple of times, but that was because my 25 pound pug was bouncing around on my bladder during a three hour car trip when I was flaring (dumb idea I know). I have had occassional stinging, but that is usually cleared up with D-Mannose or another supplement.

Sometimes I feel like I don't belong in IC forums because of the lack of pain. The 24-7 urinary frequency is enough to drive me insane, and I cannot imagine adding pain to that. Actually, a lot of time I feel like the irritation is inside my urethra, not my bladder. Either way, I was interested to know if anyone else is in the same situation as me?

I am hoping to post more on these boards as my treatment continues!

Hey there Mel,

I didn't ever have much bladder pain, or pain on peeing, except right at the beginning. My pain has always been in my urethra, vagina and vulva, and my main symptom at first was constant urgency. Don't have that any more now, just the pain/sensation - so I think the treatment has worked in that regard for me. Urgency was the WORST symptom - the irritation is much easier for me to deal with. Hope this helps!

Thanks Sarah, that is so encouraging! I have urethral irriation too a lot, did Matia ever explain what causes that? Thanks for your reply.

I never really had bad pain either. In the beginning it was more of a bad burning but that has long gone. The burning and the frequency were pretty bad. Now all I deal with is just an annoying feeling in my bladder, it sort of feels like I have to pee I guess but I don't go too often, maybe 10 times a day if that.

Ahhh, I see I am not the only one. Christine, do you mind me asking how far along in treatment you are? I actually got rid of all my symptoms within a few months by following a paleo diet (similar to Matia's diet), and was even drinking coffee and eating hot sauce with no problems. I relapsed when I ate half the halloween candy I bought for the kids.

Mel BEl The fact that you got better on teh PAleo diet is a great sign that you are totally on teh right track with Matia. Great!!
It's weird- I didn't think I ahd pain and I don't know if it's because I have a high pain tolerance or how I perceive pain but I now I recognize that what i feel is pain.

I've been in treatment since the first week of May. I drink coffee, 3 mugs a day, which is probably too much but I love it!

Hi Chrsitine, nice of you to respond to my comparison question.  Can i ask how your bladder capacity is?  Has it increased being on the diet or does it fluctuate?  Mine seemed to be on the up in beginning but has significantly decreased recently.  I've given up the mega to see if that's causing it.

Is seems ok during the day but it could be better, When I do go at night I am often amazed at homw much I pee, seems like 2 cups sometimes! My capacity over all seems to be getting better since I started treatment 6 months ago.

I'm eager to know how you're doing! I, too, suffer only from frequency. It drives me absolutely insane, especially at night.
I've gone through ups and downs. At the beginning (5 months ago) I was seeing very quick improvement, especially in nighttime frequency (sleeping up to 5 hours straight some nights). But in the past couple of months, I feel like I've regressed -- sleeping for only 1.5-2 hours between peeing. I know I am so blessed not to have pain -- and my heart goes out to all the women who have to deal with that awful symptom -- but it truly, truly messes with my quality of life, mood, appearance, etc. when I can't have a decent night's sleep for weeks at a time. Matia says I have a pretty mild case of IC, which gives me incredible hope, but I just don't see the improvement anymore!!
So, I'm curious: how has your treatment been going!?

suffers from frequency. She did start out with dizziness and nausea, but she has not had those symptoms for some time now. She is learning that certain foods will trip her frequency. She is on list 2 and trying to add in things on list 3, but that stirs up her frequency.

She had me over for dinner last week to celebrate my feeling well after a painful two week flare, and I wasn't worried because she is on list 2 and I am on list 3, so I felt everything will be safe. Well, I didn't know that she was using fresh garlic. She used 3 cloves in the meal we ate. (Which was fabulous by the way.) As soon as I got home I am experiencing the worse frequency I had had in a long time. I called her, and we pinpointed the fresh garlic. She didn't even realize herself that it could be causing so much of her frequency.
