Hi everyone,
Did you have bladder problems as a child before IC struck or did it come out of the blue, as it were (I know that it rarely just comes out of the blue) for you? If you had childhood bladder issues, is your IC characetrised mostly by pain or urgency/frequency? I am wondering if different causes result in different symptoms. Which has been easier to treat for you - pain/burning or frequency/urgency?
Many thanks.

I didn't have problems like this but I did wet my pants from laughing hysterically more than a few times. I always thought that was funny but now I wonder if the bladder weakness was already there. Or maybe I just really laugh hard!
The 2nd question is I am sure going to be one of the myriad "Everyone's different" answers.
Thanks Deir. I'm seeing Dr. B
Thanks Deir. I'm seeing Dr. B next week but am in a state of anxiety at the moment about the fact that I had some bladder issues when I was a kid (which I had completely forgotten about), and then numerous UTIs when in twenties, etc.. My main symptom is pain. I am wondering whether I am 'too far gone' for her to treat given that this 'thing' has been around for a long while. This is why I wonder which aspect of the disease might be easier to treat.
Well, up until I got this I
Well, up until I got this I never even was aware I had a bladder! I never had issues and I never even had a single bladder infection in my life, and I'm 44! I think the frequency and urgency is easier to treat, at least it was for me, now I just deal with an annoying, dull burning sensation.
childhood bladder
I had several bladder infections before age 5, I wonder now if they were actually infections or if I have had this condition since I was very young. I also remember having extreme burning one very cold day after ice skating around age 11. I was crying hysterically and my parents took me to see some random doctor since it was a Sunday who thought maybe I had pin worms (that sounded SOOO humiliating to middle school aged me) since I didn't have an infection and a lot of pain. Never found any worms and the pain went away. I definitely notice my condition gets worse when I am really cold, so I think it may have just been an early episode.
Needless to say, I'm 33 now, so this has been going on for a long time on and off. Unfortunately it's been on for the last 2 years...but I am starting to feel like I have my life back a little with Dr. B's treatments.
Hi Tink, Do you mean that
Hi Tink,
Do you mean that the burning went away almost immediately? Also, can anyone describe please how Dr B's method works? What is her main approach to this? I went on the cob website tonight and they've just funded some new research - sounds like i's all isolated to the bladder (again). We need to figure this out - can't we saomehow pool our intellectual resources and figure it out??? Why wait for docs. to figure it? What does Dr. B think it is?
Dr. B's method
Hello Vin43,
I think that alot of your questions would be answered by ordering the dissertation that's listed on the upper right hand corner of this page. HOWEVER, it does cost - I think $60.00. I will admit that I've never ordered it. I was just so impressed on how much I've improved, I didn't really ask the why of it. Now that I'm feeling so much better, I'm kind of starting to think that it might be interesting to understand it all a bit more. The thing is, I'm cheap. :)
I've got the dissertation but
I've got the dissertation but have young kids at home so unable to read it as yet. That's why I am hoping for a synopsis from some kind soul! Would love to know the theories aroud this.

I had bed wetting issues as a kid and I remember once or twice as a very young child (post diapers), peeing in my pants on long car trips with my parents. There is obviously some connection. I also leak a little when I sneeze or laugh hard. Not much laughing going on these days, though. I'd love to know the connection with the weak bladder as a young girl and IC 30 years later. I also suffer from bladder and urethra burning. That has been the last to go for me after almost 3 years. It's better but ongoing and really frustrating. I have frequency off and on if I drink lots of water at once or cheat on the diet.
