HI All,
Thought you might find this article interesting to read. It's all about general chronic inflammation in the body and how it's linked to autoimmune disorders and gut problems can be caused by toxic lifestyle etc. The article is quite basic and obviously is not targetted specifically at IC but it helps connect quite a few dots in the IC chain and helps to make sense of some of Dr B's protocol and how it helps us heal.

Thanks MissCC, great article. The only part I’m questioning is when she states that “too many animal products” increases inflammation. We’re eating 3 portions a day of animal products . Also, in the article she mentions to be tested for food allergies, which I did but Dr. B. said that they were not relevant. Being on this diet does make us all feel better and we are consuming a great amount of animal products, so what explains it? All of this is just so confusing for me but I trust this process because I am seeing result.
Sandi,
Sandi,
I have talked to Dr. B about this very thing and when you are further along in treatment she will talk about reducing the animal products. Like instead of putting some kind of meat or egg in your salad you could just put in some almonds. ;)

This is very interesting. My mom keeps asking me if i am eating too much red meat, i keep telling her as long as its grass fed its ok and healthy, but in the back of my mind i wish there was an alternative. I love legumes as source of protein but they are much later in lists. Will ask matia about this in next meeting.

The meat issue has been an interesting one for me as well. If anyone else has read any of those books like 'Along The Healing Path' etc about women who have cured their IC via the alkaline diet and detoxing they all seem to cut meat out of their diet because it's acidic.
I'm not sure if I've mentioned this on the forum before but when I first got IC a few years ago I managed to heal it myself by following the protocol in these books and getting regular herbs and acupuncture from a local chinese dr. I was very strict about no meat but did eat lots of fish and other proteins like almonds (I was able to tolerate nuts) and spirulina and chlorella. I managed to get myself into full remission for 2 or so years (ate and drank anything I liked including alcohol!) before getting a super super bad UTI a year and a half ago which brought the IC back. For some reason or another when I tried applying the same protocol this time it just didn't work which is why I finally decided to see Dr B. This time around her protocol seems to work better for me and I often feel better after meat.... So not sure what that's about. I guess there really are diff forms of IC and ways of treating.
