Hi, all. I am a new patient of Dr. Brizman's. Unfortunately, not new to IC. I have had it for 17 years and am finally ready to do whatever it takes to kick its butt. Fortunately, I found Dr. Brizman. I've been on the diet a little over a week and am doing okay so far.

One question ... what are you all doing regarding Beauty products. I am definitely a makeup and hair products girl. Does everything have to be organic? Not sure my bank account will accommodate that.

Just wondering if you all had any advice/suggestions?

Hi Melinda! If you search this site and some of the safe product lists you will find many suggestions for products. No not everything has to be organic. For example the Brizmans try to keep things as affordable for us as possible so provide cheaper and more organic type products to choose from. Cover girl is an ok option, but probably the safer option would be Gabriel beauty products can find at Whole Foods and other health food stores. It is more expensive, but is really a good product. As far as hair products, unfortunately the really only safe hair product is no longer being made! :( Dr. Brizman's safe alternative is egg whites. Sounds weird, but really it's not so bad, takes a little practice to get it down, and as your body gets stronger and reacts less intensely to products I am sure you can start trying some more less harsh chemical hair products. Always run everything you are putting in and on your body past Dr. Brizman during your appointments. It can and will make a huge difference in your healing. As far as deodorant and toothpaste Toms of Maine is safe product just make sure no fluoride or whitening in the toothpaste. Look up all the essential foods to buy organic as well and the rest can be conventially grown to save money and as much as you can afford organic pasture/grass fed meats are in your best interest as well as non farm raised fish! Best of luck and happy healing!

Hi and welcome! I recommend you read her blog dating back to 2008, as time permits. I learned a lot that way (if you have not already done so!) And her dissertation? Organic can still cause pain, so check ingredients for things you put on your skin and try to stick with Bomasense for body/skin/hair care and keep things simple and double check everything. Post if you have product questions-also on the facebook group (PM me if you are not a member I can add u)

If we don't excel at health, the only other option is disease.

HI Mimi! Thank you! I did go back and read some of the archives. I'm starting with the Gabriel Color makeup and buying some of the Bomasense products. Good advice to keep things simple. Simple is good. :)
I'd love to be part of the FB group ... I will PM you. Thanks so much for the welcome! So great to have community finally -- so few people "get" IC.

Thank you so much for the information ...I am ordering the Gabriel makeup and the Bomasense shampoo & lotion. I am a hairspray addict, so that's the one thing I'm struggling to find an alternative for. Didn't realize how addicted I am to beauty products until I had to order more expensive alternatives!

Melinda- I never really used hairspray excpet for special occasions but I used to use shine serum and stuff like that. What I have found is that a tiny dot of conditioner left in my hair is fine! I think I never really needed anything in my hair. I do have a fairly natural look though.

Thanks ... I have very fine hair and it pretty much just hangs there without a little help. :) Hoping I can maybe find something more natural for hairspray at the Whole Foods store.
