Bowel Movements

I have been wanting to ask this question a little while but too embarassed.  Not sure why but oh well.  When I have a bowel movement my bladder acts up for a good couple of hours.  I feel like I have to pee continuously.  Does anyone else have this problem?  It is mixed emotions when I have a bowel movement.  I am glad to have one as I know some of you deal with constipation but on the other hand I know I am going to suffer bladder wise for at least a good couple of hours.  I can't believe how interconnected our bladders and intestines are.

Kriste,I have always felt a decrease in my burning after I have a bowel movemnt. like I always feel better.  I have not really had frequency as big core symtom. But the other day I had one day of constipation and I felt some frequency. Like I couldn't pass a stool but I passed little amounts of urine frequently after trying.  It was werid and freaked me out. Since those are our two out of 3 lower elimination spots and being so close in proximity they have an impact- but how and why the almost opposite difference?  I would like to know what is up with that connection too. Good question. Sorry no illuminating answer. Mary

I have the same thing.  I feel more irritated after a bowel movement.  Although mine is more vulvodynia related and not so much frequency.  But Matia told me it was normal to feel more irritated after a bowel movement with IC.  I can't believe either how much the intestinal system and bladder are related, not to mention the hormonal/reproductive system as well!!

Hey Kristie,When I first started treatment with Matia I experienced an increase in frequency and bladder pain as well as vulvodynia for a few hours after each BM. I also don't know why this happened, but Matia did assure me that it was a common symptom for her patients. Thankfully I have left this symptom far behind me and you will too.

The relationship between my colon and bladder feels almost constant.  Sometimes I feel better after a bowel movement for a short period, sometimes worse.  I've had times after a bowel movement when it felt like my urgency was gone...for about 5 minutes.  I also have been having major problems lately with dribbling and leakage from my bladder, especially and mostly after BMs.  Matia says this is bc of the inflammation.I've been reading Matia's dissertation and that's been helping me realize how much all of this is related to the colon/intestines.  It's hard to wrap my head around because I never, ever thought of the bladder to be related at all to that, but of course it really makes sense logically.  I'm just so used to thinking in Western terms, that all these organs in our bodies are somehow separate.

I also have increased bladder symptoms after a bowel movement. Not so much frequency but pressure and discomfort in the vaginal zone. Glad to hear others do too!
