Catheters

Forums: 

Are we to avoid catheters at all cost?  And can anyone shed any light on the reasons why?  I know that there is risk of infection but other than that i'm not sure.  Thanks in advance.

I'm going to take that to mean that I can go ahead with some more urodynamics..

I guess that the main reason is the risk of infection, esp something called biofilm infection - some bacteria make a biofilm (any bacteria can do that probably, but I am not a biochemst):) so that it is hard for medications/herbs to get to them and get rid of them. I know it is more complicated, but that is what I remember.
