It comes and goes with me. The more I give to it, the worse it makes my body feel. I noticed that sugar is really destructive.
My cravings usually come at night, about 1-2 hrs after dinner. The only thing works for me is re-route my chocolate craving in different direction, i.e., get another snack, rice cake, zucchini muffin, leftover piece of meat usually helps, too. I don't crave as much if I don't see chocolate in my pantry or don't come across chocolate section in grocery store.
The thing that I never do (or never was able to do) is ignore the craving. I think if you crave, your body needs something; it may not be what it craves, but something.
I am also having crazy chocolate cravings. I agree that if it's not in my house or in front of me, I can usually ward it off with something else, but once it's near me I can't resist and then I can't stop thinking about it. I know chocolate has magnesium and can often be a sign of deficiency when we crave it, but Matia says it is, as usual, more complex than that. I also think it has something to do with wanting some "sweetness" in our lives and a "reward" for sticking to the restrictive diet. I went through a period of bingeing on those grain sweetened chocolate chips from Sunspire. They hurt my bladder just enough that I was able to stop that, but now and then I buy them for an emergency! I have also noticed when I cut back on grains (even brown rice and quinoa), my body craves the chocolate and sweets more. This is a sign that the yeast are still alive and kicking and calling out for their meal! It's amazing how tough it is to crack these suckers. Two years in and I still deal with the cravings, die off and more. Anyway, I hear ya sister with the dark chocolate cravings! Funny thing is, two years ago I loved milk chocolate and hated dark. Now, the few times I have had milk chocolate....it's disgusting! And way too sweet! The dark is so much nicer and very comforting.
Woow, thats insteresting what you say about craving dark chocolate&sweets when one you cut back grains-even brown rice and quinoa. Thats exactly what I have been feeling lately. I had excluded grains from my diet last week and had lots of cravings, mostly dark chocolate, funny.
ALso are we supposed to have raw cocoa on treatment?
I try to have something fatty on hand, like potato chips, or nuts (if you can tolerate them) which helps curb my cravings. If that doesn't work, I go for a small piece of fruit which really does the trick. Coffee with milk seems to do the trick too.
I was wondering about raw cocoa and was going to ask Matia if I could try nibs- the roasted cocoa beans. Anyone know?
Here another option for those craving dark chocolate. I tried this couple of times recently and just love it sooooooo! and satisfies my dark chocolate cravings.
I mix almond butter (those who can use cashew butter, too) with unsweetened cocoa, and add a bit of hot water(or cold) to give the desired density, but I guess you don't have to add water. Then I add some agave to give a bit sweetness, and keep in in fridge, or freezer if I wanna have sth more like ice-cream. If you want you can prepare the mix as small chocolate balls for fancier apperance and /or you know how many you ate:-) You can add blueberries as well. So at the end you have "bluberry stuffed dark cholote-almond butter rolls, lol..

this is tricky

Aberger, yes please let us
Aberger, yes please let us know when you learn about raw cocoa, it might depend on the person individually though.
chocolate recipe
I just recently made this for my fiance's sister who is a diabetic...and I tasted a little against my better judgement (so yummy):
big bar of unsweetened chocolate (from whole foods or something similar)
1/4 c-1/2 c to taste of agave
I just melted it together on the stove, and then poured it into a container and refrigerated it.
If you're dying for some chocolate and need a non sugary option--I'm not advocating cheating or anything.
