Eating out

Hey, I was wondering if anyone else has run into a problem I have with eating out. I miss eating out with friends which I am sure everyone else does too! I have started to just make my food and bring it along with me and also bring my Arrowhead spring water of course ;). Has anyone else run into the problem of the restraunt telling you that you can't have the water bottle inside beause they are afraid it is alcohol or that you can't bring your food with you? I just tell them I have a lot of allergies and a medical condition...it usually works. But...what a pain in the ass for just trying to live and have a social life....if only they knew!!!! haha. So I think it would be rad if there was some type of medical card we could carry around to allow this. Does anyone know of such a thing?

thanks everyone! Best wishes :)

I don' know the answers to your questions but am wondering, have you gone backpacking over night since starting the protocol? What did you do about food and probiotcs?

Thank you.

Bonni, ya I have gone camping a lot to climb. But I go car camping. So I bring my cooler and probiotics for days. If I were to go backpacking overnight I would have to bring my small cooler but I think two days is all I would be able to do hauling in food and stuff.  Where are you thinking of going? I think it is rad you are still out doing that stuff! :)

Hi Portia,

I don't think there is such a thing, I wish though! but you could ask to ur GP just to check.. I don't eat out, but I know other patients that bring their food to restaurants and normally is ok. I don't go out because I don't feel comfortable by sitting for long just yet.

Hey! I sent you an email recently :) not sure if you got it.

Camping and climbing sounds amazing to me. Glad you are back to healthy activities.

I like you're idea of an "allergy card"- I think the ICN has some bathroom card you can give people in order to gain easier access to a bathroom in an emergency.  We could just make a food card, no one would know it's not from some "authority". As a former waitress, I wouldn't have ever questioned some card someone showed me as long as they were polite about it. Any graphic designers out there up to the task?

At the same time, I've never really encountered a huge issue with restaurants.  Usually everyone is very nice and understanding.  Sorry you haven't had the same experience!

Great idea!! That would be so funny just to make a card and get it laminated. As long as it looks official and you say it confidantly- it would work!

I came to the conclusion that I should stay away from restaurants. The temptation to get a piece of this or that is too strong for me. It is not worth compromising. There is only one exception, expensive restaurants where they actually serve whole food: whole potato, steak, salad with olive oil, broccoli with no spices. They are usually polite there and don't question.
The only thing I brought with me is water. I had to call ahead and explain the situation. I never brought my own food, but may be I should. Good idea for the future.
I do find that I have to explain myself precisely to waiting staff. Even if I say 'no spices, no herbs, no sugar, no flour', they manage to put something on, just to make it tastier (in their mind). That is frustrating for me. I usually don't return the dish once it is served because I am hungry, and I feel like I have to at least a part of it.
