This is sometihing I have wondered about. If you think it's a possibility, let me know. I had mono for the first time a few years ago. As an adult, I couldn't really take off work and rest for months like some kids do when they get it at a young age. months later, I had some tests run and my spleen was enlarged, so the doctors suspected it was still the mono causing it. For a while, before IC, I have felt chronic fatigue and wondered if mono had anything to do with it. I also wondered if my immune system was compromised by antibiotics and panic attacks and if the virus remactivated this way causing IC. Because a lot of things I've experienced are common characteristics of a herpes virus - hearing loss in one ear, pudeneaml neuralgia, pain in my thigh - it made me wonder. I have tested negative for the herpes viruses but the only lab result that was questionable that I recently had run was my mono levels. I think they were borderline. A couple of things I wonder. Could the mono herpes virus become active below because of oral sex.? Has anyone in the history of ic treatment taken antiviral meds to see if it would help abate the symptoms? Could this be a strain of herpes, including mono, chicken pox, shingles, no one knows about?

I had Mono/Epstein Bar Virus years ago - like 20 years ago. At the time I can remember minimal IC symptoms that would come and go - nothing that I really noticed too much. I have had so many different ailments - that I've come to believe have been the symptoms - not the cause - including the IC - of my body suffering from something. In my case, I truly believe that there is a good chance it is from an imbalance from yeast and bacteria - overtaxing my system. I have seen such remarkable results over the last 18 months; Not just improvement of IC symptoms, but so many other things that weren't what lead me to Dr. B.
Dear Me - please know that what I'm about to say I so hope that you don't take as being too blunt. Please know that it comes from someone who has struggled, and continues to struggle with anxiety that can become debilitating. I am no poster child for the rational. I know what it's like to have your brain stuck, thinking and rethinking, trying to find a solution, to the point that you just can't stop it. I truly believe, from reading your posts, that you share too many of the same symptoms, of the other inmates :) - not to be one of us. I do believe that Dr. B can help you if you find a way to get to California.
As for the oral sex causing an existing virus to become active, I don't have enough knowledge to comment. I do belive that many IC patients have problems with their partners bodily fluids, exactly why is something that I'm not sure of. I know that Dr. B is a stong advocate of condoms due to this. I also know that the use of them isn't forever - as many patients get healthy enough to have babies.

Epstein Barr thrives in people with high yeast I believe. It is probably just another symptom of the body out of balance.
