fat meats

Are we supposed to eat lean meats only? For some reason, I am realizing there might be number of things I am doing wrong. I crave bacon and juicy steaks, and I eat them, too.

I don't think so... I eat a lot of steak and burgers, so i hope not!

I eat a ton of red meat and Matia says it's ok. Don't eat bacon... it has loads of crap in it. Buy proscuitto instead. The kind I get says pork and salt on the ingredients.

No cured meats.

Matia advises eating red meat every day as she believes we need it to heal.  I asked her how much and she said about burger size.
She thinks its the fat in the red meat which is healing to the intestines.  So I would say carry on eating those juicy steaks.

Definately drop the bacon though.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who craves red meat and loves it!

I agree on no bacon as well. I started to love red meat, too-- after the protocol. Sometimes I eat once a day per week, even twice a day in case I eat left over, and wonder if it is too much--It might be too much but I still don't know what too much/normal means. Matia said one time that if it feels too much back off a bit, so I suppose it is all how we feel about ?  or better to ask her again :)

Red meat seems to be the only meat I am tolerating at the moment.  I'm pretty sick of eating burgers and steaks at every meal.  I have to wonder about the effects these fatty red meats are having on our arteries.  I used to eat a lot of fish but found I am now reacting to it.  Same with chicken, and I never did tolerate turkey.  I did eat natural, uncured bacon for awhile, but it bothers me now too.  What's left to eat?

Clueless, can you eat goat meat? and also eggs/yogurt for protein? What kind of reaction do you have for chicken/turkey btw?

I've tried lamb and do okay on that and also bison, but it is all red meat.  I don't tolerate yogurt or dairy, eggs, or much else, for that matter.  My diet is severely limited.  Veggies seem to flare my bladder and bowel.  My food list gets shorter and shorter as time goes.

I am sorry to hear that. I hope you can find something that you can tolerate, I wonder what Matia says though. As for the veggies, when I started the treatment with her, I wasn't able to tolerate most of the veggies bu she told me to keep eating them even if they gave discomfort/made me bloated. Cabbage,(and yogurt) for instance makes me bloated but I still eat.Well, we all have different cases but might be better to get more information on that so that you won't feel so restricted.

I was a little concerned about yogurt. I crave Seven Stars Farm organic yogurt from a farm in PA. Stonyfield doesn't come close.
I am not 100% sure how it makes me feel, but I think it is okay. Our diet is calcium deficient, so I thought adding yogurt is a good idea. I still stay away from milk and other dairy products.
These are the things I crave now: meats, yogurt, and fresh salad leaves. I used to crave chocolate, but managed to get it off my mind for a while.

Clueless, I feel the same way. I swear I used to be able to tolerate chicken, turkey, and eggs, but now I can only have organic chicken and eggs and natural turkey hurt my stomach.  Also I used to be able to tolerate sea salt and cucumbers but now I don't. I don't understand why? What is going on??  I feel the same as you do. What is left??????  Clueless, does Salmon bother you? I seem to do well with wild caught salmon.

I don't do real well with salmon either.  I think it is the oils.  I don't understand why my food list keeps getting smaller and smaller.  The interesting thing is that I used to react to beef.  I'm post menopausal, and since I started using Vagifem for vaginal atrophy, things have changed.  Now, instead of reacting to beef, I'm tolerating it.  I used to eat nothing but fish.  Cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, etc. all gas & bloat me up and flare up my bowel.  I am the opposite of most IC'ers in that my bowels are very loose.  I'm the opposite side of the coin.  What a pickle this all is!

What is Vagifem?  I have really bad vaginal atrophy but Matia has never even mentioned this to me.  She feels it will correct itself with time.  I too am post menopausal and I feel for me this is the cause of all my problems.  Hormones!  I seem to tolerate all meats and most veges.  I don't tolerate grains or dairy at all.

I have been struggling with vaginal atrophy issues for awhile...post menopausal.  Matia has me on a Gingisng Herb that really seems to be helping me.  The vagifem and other products were causing alot of yeast problems for me.  Maybe ask Matia about Gingsing.

Vagifem is a very small tablet of estradiol used to treat vaginal atrophy in post menopausal women.  It is a synthetic estrogen though, and not a natural one.  Matia had me try natural estriol in olive oil, but it just flared things up and did not help.  It was too runny to get it where I needed it to go.  The GYN  nurse talked me into trying the Vagifem.  Matia said that she had a couple of patients do well on Vagifem.  I tried it, and so far I am tolerating it okay.  I can't tell if it helped with my IC symptoms or not.  At first it seemed to help, but now I'm not sure.  You start out by using it every night for 2 weeks and then go to twice weekly.  I only lasted one week until I got some adverse symptoms so then backed it off.  The adverse symptoms left when I backed it down to twice weekly.  I'm kind of feeling my way along with it right now.  I've been on it for about 2 1/2 mo.  You should give it a try and see if it helps.

HI- I am pretty sure Vagifem is natural estrogen but it probably has other synthetic ingredients- preservatives etc.

Vagifem is definitely synthetic estradiol.  That is one of the reasons I did not want to use it, but it seems the best way to go right now.

OH sorry. Ii was thinking of something else. Have you checked out Elizabeth Vliet's book  about Estrogen? It's called "SCreaming to be Heard" She talks about all kinds of estrogen therapy. SHe is a mainstream MD but is highly in favor of natural estrogen. IT might be worth a look. I think there was another kind of estradiolo that you can insert similiar to vagifem. Good luck

I did read that book you are referring to.  If there is another estradiol out there, Matia doesn't know of it.  I think I am stuck with this one.

What about estring or femring?

Clueless's picture

Are estring and femring natural estrogens?  I forget exactly what they are.  Do you put them in and they stay in place?  The Vagifem is a very small tablet and easy to insert.

They are bioidentical and I am not totally sure how you insert them. I think they are like a small diaphragm type ting and they stay up in your vagina.

Anything that stays in the vagina doesn't sound good since with atrophy that area is so dry.  I'm afraid it would rub and create sores or bleeding.
