So we all have it here at my house. I know there are many natural things to do but what can I dothat won't flare me? Can I use tea tree oil?

Sorry Deir!
In our neck of the woods we head STRAIGHT out to a "nit pixies" type of place where they brush out the nits for you. This is the best way without chemicals. You have to have someone comb out the nits (and of course clean bedding, etc...) This is most thourough, chem-free way. If you don't have a "nit pixies" type of place, do you have friend/fam member that can comb yours out and you can comb out the kids? (Nit comb from drug store)?

If we don't excel at health, the only other option is disease.

Deirdre,

My daughter had lice a long time ago and the chemical stuff didn't work.  A nurse gave us the following instructions and it worked:  saturate hair with mayonnaise before bed, put on shower cap and leave on overnight.  In the morning the lice will all be dead including eggs.  The mayo suffocates them.  Maybe Dr. B could approve a mayo for you?

Wash all fabric items in the hottest water possible.  For stuffed animals, put them in plastic garbage bags and tie tightly.  Leave in for a couple weeks or maybe longer.  I'm sure you can find more tips online, but this is what I remember.

Don't worry, it will all be over soon if you are vigilant.  We never had lice in our house again.  Only that one time.

This is GREAT! THANKS Lisa Ann!

Interesting because my DD had pinworms and (here comes gross) they crawl to the anal opening and lay eggs. In a midwife handout I read that you can put vaseline on the anal opening (I know, not natural, maybe another salve like from Bomamed would work too) and the vaseline immobilizes the worms so that they cant lay any more eggs. You have to do it for a month tho to interrupt the cycle. Pinworm irradication is similar to lice.

Deir, keep us posted. Honestly, maybe just some creamy/whipped butter would suffocate the buggers??

oooooh!!! I got another idea!!! What about softened talow (beef fat) or LARD?? Dr. B has allowed me to have pork 2x per month, and I think pork fat is pretty innocuous. Or DUCK FAT??? YEs! I bet this would work as well as mayo. Then you would have to get it out of your hair. BUT you could use a "dry shampoo" meaning, brown rice flower or potato flour. That stuff REALLY PULLS OIL out of your hair! TRUST me! :)
Sigh. Keep us posted. I am with you. We just got over pinworms at our house.

OOOH. Duh! I just remembered you can make some of the home made olive oil/egg mayo from one of the recipes on our site!!! You know, the blender one? Remember?

Ugh. Sorry to hear this. I am however very interested in whatever solution you find. I am going to start working in primary school this fall and have been warned of lice... So I may be asking your advice in the future! Good luck!!!

WHat's worse than IC? IC plus head lice. Plus 3 kids. What's worse than that? having it while your husband is out of town for 5 days.  Oh- and I have a sporadic part time job I love (singing) and I missed 2 gigs (300$) because of this!!

You know- it was so bad- it was absolutely hilarious! You know how sometimes it helps mentally when you just give over to the absurdity?

We spent the day with shower caps and stuff on our heads. I got natural lice stuff for the kids and I put olive oil on mine. Then I combed everyones's hair for a LOOOONG time. My poor oldest son had to cut his beloved long hair. Poor guy, he cried but then handled it like a champ. Today, I am going to go out and buy him a new baseball hat. He was definitely Patient Zero and I have a feeling he may have known somehting was up but didn't want  his hair cut! I spent the whole day cleaning, laundry etc. I couldn't face anymore dishes so i asked my  mom to bring Burger King for the kids! They were sitting there with shower caps eating fast food. It was so bad- it was funny. My son was like,"We are eating fast food?"  with the most surprised voice. hahahaha HAt least it was hamburgers.

I  have really long and pretty thick hair and I used to call it dark blonde but now I name it "lice colored" haha. My husband will behome today and he can nit pick me a little more but I honestly think I may have gotten them. I combed my hair with the special comb for more than 2 hours.

ahhhhhh- life is funny! One good thing is that my IC was behaving really well all day. I am grateful for that!

Thanks everyone!

So sorry you had to deal with this on top of everything else! Sounds like you handled it like a champ. What else can you do, but laugh it off! Glad everything turned out ok and your IC was behaving. Hugs! You deserve a gold star!:)
