short rant after a trip to the MD's office

I just have to get this out of my system!

Those of you who have been on here for a bit may know that I had strep throat for about 2 months last spring. It seemed as though it is back, so I went to the MD's office today to get a strep test to confirm it.  I had already been taking Matia's herbs for about 12 hours at this point.  The test came back negative but my MD (who I think is a lovely person) said that it looked like strep and that she'd prescribe antibiotics for me even though the strep test was neg. AND she gave me a refill in case it comes back again and said I should just take more antibiotics without confirmation of an infection! I bit my tongue and just listened, thinking that this is how we get into the overuse of antibiotics mess in the first place.  She also said "well, if it doesn't clear up after taking the antibiotics, at least you'll know it was viral and not strep." It seems really negligent on the part of doctors to just throw antibiotics at everything.

I know she means well, but there's lots of evidence, even in the mainstream, that overuse of antibiotics causes problems.  She also has known about my IC for the past 15 years- you would think doctors would be somewhat aware of the hypothesis that overuse of antibiotics is a contributing factor to IC.

I'm never sure if it's best to say something about my differing viewpoint in a non-confrontational manner or just quietly ignore their advice.  Went with option B today since it hurts my throat to talk anyway.

OK, rant over.  Hmph.

My father in law's lady is a PhD in communications who used to work with the CDC specifically training doctors NOT to do that shit.  It is definitely a mainstream accepted thing.  This doc should be ashamed for not keeping up with "continued medical education!!!!"  So irresponsible.  I personally would have given her an ear full--which never works out, so silence was the best call.

When my daughter was constipated, they put her on antibiotic. There was no bacterial infection, after I raised questions, the pediatrician explained to me that one of the known side effects of that particular antibiotic is loose stool. They were using it to loose her stool. I stopped it as soon as I learned this little 'detail'.
