Smoked salmon

Dr. Brizman says smoked salmon is okay as a protein alternative (I'm on list 3, but she seemed to indicate that it's always okay, even before list 3). I'm wondering though, if there are any particular types I should aim for/avoid?

Do any of you have experience eating smoked salmon?

Hi ladies,

I am totally baffled that smoked salmon is OK! Because - you know - it is fact a raw fish, right? it is cold smoked, which means it is not cooked at all... At least that is what we have here in Europe and it mostly comes from Sweden, Norway, Ireland... Does anyone have an idea how could this be OK for us? I always thought it is something like sushi - a big fakt NO :). Anyway if we can have it, OMG bring me some asap! :) I just love it.

I just revisited my email from Dr. Brizman on this and, yes, she said that it's okay to try it on List 3. Then again, that might just be advice specific to me -- perhaps ask her next time you talk to her?
As for the salmon being cooked or raw, I looked it up, and apparantely it depends on whether it's been hot or cold smoked. If it's hot smoked, then yes, it's cooked. If it's cold smoked, then it is just cured (though normally frozen after the smoking to eliminate any potential worms, yuck).

for clarification... I will ask of course, but oh, just the thought of smoked salmon is killing me! :D despite the horrible nausea and stomach pain, and that is something! :)

I asked Doctor again just to make sure, and she said it's cool, but to watch out for products that have hidden sugars (I think gravlax uses this) or weird chemicals.
