Dear ladies

I really don't know what to do anymore. My back, sacrum and leg pain is so terrible, I can't sit, lie on my back or sides or sleep. Boaz has tried so hard but nothing is working every week he changes my protocol and then we have to go back to 1 super 4 rp x3 because anything else flares my back up terribly. It has been three months since it became unbearable and I feel we have gone through all the normal herbs and now he is suggesting tumeric and anything to reduce the inflammation. There seems to be no relief for me no matter what I try amd over the Last 4 and a half years I have done so many things. My bladder symptoms are improving but this pain is linked to the ic and is equally, if not more painful. None of the.physio or adjustments help anymore and each week I am hopeful about the herbs only to have to return to the same protocol (which isn't helping but doesn't hurt) because whatever we try worsens the burning. I wonder if I should leave treatment as I just can't take this anymore and nothing seems to help ever. I think my ic could have been healed but perhaps this is too much as boaz seems confused by it all and my parents can't take the strain of me crying and unable to rest.

Hi Katie,
Very sorry to hear that things are still so bad. However, reading your post made me think that given that you flare up at protocol changes means that you are reacting to something. Something is going on, which is a good sign because your body is trying to correct itself. Is there any pattern to what makes things worse? Does anything at all make things better? Can you list things which are consistently bad for you Inc. foods, herbs, etc.. There may be a pattern. Can you try Western medicine alongside this protocol. Have you had a diagnosis from your GP/hospital consultant? Keep going and keep talking.

Hi vin

my western medical diagnosis is Hypermobility of the spine causing inflammation of the facet joints and sacrum from it moving too much. I just don't understand how the herbs would affect that though even though they seem to. When I started the protocol I was stuck on just salmon as everything else made my bladder burn so much I couldn't eat it. I can eat more foods now bladder wise but I do wonder if they affect my back, but in reality I can't continue eating just salmon as I was so weak and poorly from lack of food. It's all so confusing. Ice helps the back pain and I know that it's partially inflammatory but I really don't understand how it's related to the IC even though it must be as it started at the same time. I might be able to get a spinal injection on them U.S. but I wonder if that's a bad idea if it's affected by the herbs.......

Well, the hypermobility may not in fact be affected by the herbs- but the soft tissue around the area may be, or, the herbs may be acting on a particular system such as your digestive system, and the effects are referred, in your case, to the spine. If I have a bladder flare (rare, these days), I get a 'flare belt' around my waist, hips, low abdominal cavity and upper thighs. It's all referred pain. Ditto for flaring foods - they are affecting a different system (most likely your stomach although our circulatory system obviously carries substances elsewhere in the body) but the effects are referred to your spine. I know that steroid injections are available for spines (and epidurals, etc.) but that's heavy duty stuff. Have you explored if there any natural injections, for example? Can you not try a two-pronged treatment - keep treating your bladder, digestion, etc. with Boaz but try something different for your spine? I'm sure Boaz would agree as I've seen a few people sometimes resort to using Western medicine alongside what they do here. Well, the hypermobility may not in fact be affected by the herbs- but the soft tissue around the area may be, or, the herbs may be acting on a particular system such as your digestive system, and the effects are referred, in your case, to the spine. Can you try wearing a corset to try and reduce its movement (and keep going with your bladder herbs)?

You'll get there but it may take a while. I know how disheartening it can be to visit doc after doc, with only very minimal results) or get told it's depression). I was in such a bad way physically that I never, ever thought that I'd be able to lead a normal life again - but I am doing exactly that. I still have many symptoms, my life is rubbish at times, but I am completely functional and very, very slowly, I am getting stronger and stronger, and better and better. It makes sense to ask Boaz to explore other options alongside his treatment. It's not casting any aspersions on the utility of this treatment - it's just an opportunity to try to move things in a slightly different direction, all under Boaz's guidance. As I mentioned, I've seen several people do this on these boards. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. I think the key thing for me has been the extremely slow, almost invisible progression to health. On a day-to-day basis, I don't notice any changes at all. It's only in hindsight that I can see the improvements. Don't expect a miraculous, overnight cure. I don't think it works that way. But something is working!
